Movarus Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Going to be up on the Chowan river fishing for the first time in about a months time and I'm wondering if anyone with a little bit of experience might help. I'll be putting in at Shoups Landing off of highway 13. I've google map'd this area and it looks great. Lots of cypress trees and from what I hear a lot of the trees tend to have nice 5-6ft holes around them. I'm thinking about throwing a white tandem spinnerbait or a white/chartreuse chatter bait at the trees and maybe throw some green pumpkin flukes as they are doing well for me. Are there any specific lures that work better than others up around this area? Or if you are willing to talk about it, any good spots to start casting? I'm really looking forward to it. Quote
moloch16 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 You might find the information you're looking for here: http://ncangler.com Lot's of NC anglers hang out and help each other out, stop by! Quote
Movarus Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 One of the people I'm going up there with already posted on NCangler. We haven't had much luck there either :-/. Guess we will just have to try what we know . Thanks for the info though. Quote
frogtog Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 You will want to head down river toward Holiday Island. ( Appx 12 miles ) The bank behind the island ( left side of the river ) is hot and I'm talking 50+ bass a day. Catching them on Green Pumpkin Sinko's wacky style. If you have never fished the trees on Chowan let me be the first to let you know that the Snakes are very friendly, they like to get in the boat with you. ;D Don't be afraid to go on back in the Cypress trees that's where they're at. Good Luck Quote
Movarus Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 Awesome. I took a look at where that was and that area looks pretty amazing! Thanks for the info! I know it's a bit in the future but I'll let everyone know how we do. Quote
frogtog Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I have a couple of tournaments there before you go so stay in touch. Quote
Movarus Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Went down last Saturday and had a blast. That area is gorgeous. Caught a lot of fish, but only one keeper. He weighed in at 3.95 lbs though so it was still a fun catch . Thanks again for the info, it really paid off . Quote
aarogb Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I have never fished that area before. What did you catch most of your fish on? Quote
Movarus Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Wacky rigged senko-style bait in green pumpkin and pumpkin colors. The person I was fishing with also had luck with pearl flukes. Quote
