Michelle43 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I am headed there right now. If anyone wants to meet up I am wearing brown shorts and a Grey shirt. I have blond hair in a pony tail. My day sucked so I figured fishing would help. If you are in the area and want to fish and give advice...come say hello. Quote
Michelle43 Posted August 6, 2009 Author Posted August 6, 2009 Not a bite. I was there for 45 mins then saw a beaver doing his/her thing. I sat for 30 mins watching that beaver with my rod on land. I didn't catch anything but I enjoyed the view. Quote
Slip Gun Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Where is Walney pond I have never even heard of it. I'm trying to look it up but no luck. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 I-66 towards Centreville, north on Rt.28, first right (Walney Rd.) It is a very small pond with lots of lily pads. Quote
Slip Gun Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Oh nice and close! Ill have to check it out. Thanks for the info Dan. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 No problem. Good luck, it's never been very productive for me. Quote
05aucrarsx Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 didn't know there is a pond there i live like 5 mins away, will try my luck there tomorrow Quote
Michelle43 Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/ecl/natural_history.htm#pond It is stocked with LMB and catfish. The lily pads are really growing this time of year. They can be frustrating. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 Did you throw a pink or white trick worm over the pads? What about a Rage Tail Anaconda? Anything "Rage Tail" over the pads may be productive. And of course, there are always rats and frogs fished on braid. If you want catfish, throw Gulp! baits. Come on guys, catch something and post the pics. Quote
NewAngler Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Michelle- It took me forever to get my first bite too, it'll come, that much is certain. And when it does it'll be that much better. I was actually going to hit walney next tuesday for a while. Quote
Jake... Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 it sounds like a nice pond reading the fairfax description. and I just checked this place on google maps there seems to be a ton of other little ponds all over. has anyone fished any of them?? I might check it out one day, since I don't own a boat I love pond hopping. and in annandale, about 25 min away Quote
Michelle43 Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 Walney is a nice pond. It is probably better before the lily pads bloom. I fished for a short time then sat there for 3x longer watching a beaver do his thing. I guess part of fishing is loving wildlife, I enjoyed watching that beaver more than I would have disturbing him to catch a fish. Quote
rondef Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Walney Pond is a nice little pond and it has a few nice keepers in it but it can be tough fishing there sometimes. There are many other places that are better to fish in Northern Virginia. Quote

Super User Dan: Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 :-X cool thanks for nothing :-/ I'm sorry dude but I don't give out spots for free anymore. I found almost all of my spots on my own and then I started to tell other people about them and those people told other people, etc, etc... It's nothing personal. I'll just tell you this: Google Maps is a very valuable tool. Quote
