nickw234 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I'm going to fish West lake 2maro anyone got any good and hot spots? Quote
chatterbaitn Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 that whole lake is a hot spot. Look for deeper hydrilla and run crankbaits. It worked for me a couple of weeks ago out there. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted July 19, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted July 19, 2009 I could give you some spots for 5 pounders. However, I did not completely understand your question. When you take the time to use words that are in the dictionary, I will take the time to give you some spots. FD Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I myself would love to know some spots on toho, or atleast some ideas. I fished it this morning and pretty mcuh got skunked(my buddy caught one dink, and one mudfish) here's the spots and techniques we tried 1st spot: the outflow of "shingle creek" the water was flowing pretty good, worked c-rigged lizards, and topwater, this is where the dink came from. after about an hour we left, 2nd: just south west of marker 24, in about 7' of water, c-rigs, traps, and jigs in scattered hydrilla. nothing! 3rd: locked down to cypress and fished the outflow of the canal into cypress (an area where my buddies had slayed them about a month ago) the water was flowing south pretty decent, tried c-rigs, cranks, jigs, and senkos again, not much action at all. 4th: headed to south end of cypress near the canal to run to hitchnawha (sp?) flipped an area of reeds, just east of canal with creatures/jigs, again an area that had produced previously, fished it for about an hour with no hits at all! 5th: headed back into toho and worked the area around the south east corner, where the little house is out on the peninsula. fished senkos, nothing finally we headed to what I believe is called "browning's point" and fished in the shallows there, that's where the mudfish came. we jsut didn't see much activity at all. I know the reports have said open water with hydrilla, but there wasn't mcuh at all going on there. so I guess, I'm looking for some guidance on that lake, I'm not anyone's secret spots ss to speak, but a better idea of what to look for Quote
tnhiker44 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 It has been a very long time since I have fished West Toho, but the lake is a special place for me. I caught my personal best from that lake. That fish came from way up Shingle Creek... just before the bridge (in springtime though). This time of year those fish are at their laziest... you will find them in the darkest part of the floating Hydrilla 'islands', in "reel" deep water. Finding a shell bed or two wouldn't hurt either. Other than real early or real late you will not see a lot of activity... that water is darn hot. Well... I take that back... the Hydrilla gnats will be really really active. Good luck with those things. Flip and pitch to the holes in the mats. And then do it some more. It is a slow bite time of year... Quote
chatterbaitn Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I won a tourney out there last month with 5 fish 26lbs. I fished the mouth of shingle creek the bite was slow but caught a 4- pounder on a crankbait. I then moved up into shingle creek and was flipping senko's into current and caught about 8 fish keeping 4 best was 9+. I then ended my day in friar's cove fishing crankbait's and culled a couple of fish. I also have heard the bite early in Goblet's cove has been pretty good. Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Hey Big Mike, if you were fishing a watermelon seed c-rigged lizard, that broke off at Shingle creek...I caught it on my c-rigged Junebug ribbon tail worm ..LOL. I was fishing there on the 19th too, just having fun. We caught a nice 5lber flipping grass lines on one of the grass flats and one bent the hook not 5 minutes later, that made the 5lber look like a dink. Junebug colored otter. My Hubby was trying out the flipping stick I bought him for father's day (thanks megastrike) and had her right at the boat. I was reaching down to lip her and my fist would have easily fit inside her mouth. ( not touching the sides.) She gave one last head shake and got off. The hook had bent just enough for her to get free. Of course if it was a tournament day we would have A..been skunked with no bites B..we both would have thrown ourselves down, kicked our feet and cried when she came off. or C. I am the extreme "net girl" and the bass would have been in the net long before or I would have slid over the side to her, net first. Of course Hubby loves the new rod, says it hasn't caught one less than 5lbs yet.. LOL. Quote
