IDbasser Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I just got some circle hooks, and i need some tips for them. I have never used them before. I fish both river and lakes for small mouth. thanks Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Circle hooks are designed for ZERO hookset. You close bail and start reeling (with even pressure) and slowly let the rod load up. Fish on,..it's that simple. ps- Settiing the hook will result in some missed fish. You'll pull it right out of his mouth before the point penetrates. Originally used for live bait and large fish (saltwater, Tuna, etc) they are very popular for shiners and wacky rigging. Basically, any rigging where there is a high risk of a gut hook. Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 27, 2008 Super User Posted March 27, 2008 Circle hooks are great but I have had too many smallies throw them on me. I like an Octopus (non-circle) for smallies now. Everytime you set the hook it is a sure bet the smallie is coming in the boat and everyone is hooked it the top of the mouth. Quote
