this time last year I was catching them on chrome/black rattles traps.  If you put in at Yellow Jacket and come under the bridge, on the left there is a rock drop off on the entrance to the first creek arm.  Boated a bunch of spots there and on the submerged dam just inside the creek.

Sorry about the late report...but I wouldn't have helped you much anyway. I got lazy and didnt get out there till 7:45 ish central time. missed any topwater bite there might have been. I was surprised at just how hot it was that early.

I decided that I needed to practice some deepwater stuff and I needed to learn the C-rig, so i tied one on and put everything else back in the box. The only thing productive I did was get a little practice on throwing the thing, and I found a road bed that everyone else in alabama and georgia already knew about.

I did talk to a guy who caught a couple of really nice fish. Evidently all you have to do is "chum" up the water with minnows and they come out of the woodwork. Cheating, but he wasn't fishing tournament, just fishing for food. Hated to see those 2 good fish leave the population....but what can you do...

I saw a guide in Florida do this. He used a cast net to catch shad, then when it came to fishing time he would squeeze a dozen or so shad in a small dip net, have is fishermen hook up 'healthy' shad, and then he tossed in the injured ones. His fishermen would then toss in their lines and the bass went crazy.

Fast forward to this May when I stayed at a cabin at Highland Marina. Both mornings, very early, a few guides would show up and throw cast nets for shad at the cabin guest boat dock. I talked with them both Saturday and Sunday morning. They said they were striper fishing... but now I am not so sure.

I always thought that was sorta cheating also.
