GonzoFishing Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Got a quick question for the South Florida anglers. I went to a local lake this morning here in Miami and happened to find a 3" live crawdad sitting there right on the bank. So of course I grabbed him and used him for bait ;D My question is this. Actually a couple of questions. Are they native to South Florida or was this someones left over bait? Can they be bought at a bait store? If not, any recommendations on how to catch them?? Thanks Quote
GLADES Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I have seen them on the banks of city canals, but not very often. Quote
etommy28 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I got to FGCU, and when the water gets cold, they come out of the lake in housing an get on the side walks at night where it is warm, and some time there are a lot of them. basically yes, they are native, check the laws, they need a different licience, and it has ways to trap them, they make crawfish traps. gar-tracker Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Yes they are native and they also are the number one forage in for bass in most South Florida canals. Back in the days we ate our fish every bass you cleaned had a belly full of crawdads. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 22, 2009 Super User Posted June 22, 2009 I've seen a few up here sitting on the banks of my lake in south Broward. Very rare, but I do see a few in the early mornings or out at night. It's made me start using more craw patterned baits on t-rigs. Paca-craws, chigger craws, etc etc. Definitely seems to work at certain times of the day. Quote
GonzoFishing Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 Thanks everyone! I'll try to catch a few but for now I think SoFlaBassAddict's right on with the craw pattern. Thanks again Quote
