Fished the Potomac with a buddy this afternoon. Grass near Mount Vernon, creek across from it and the Washington Channel. Had a good afternoon. 12 in the boat. Lost 3 more at the boat. One of those was d**n near 5 lbs. Text book fish too. Threw a Texas rigged rage craw on a piling. bounced it twice down a shelf and it took off. reeled down and popped it (or so i thought). She made two jumps and threw the hook. 2 of the 12 were smallies. My first small mouth on the river too! All fish were off senkos, flukes, and spinners. Heading out tomorrow too. Post more tomorrow night.

Fishinfourfun and i just came back from potomac and it was biting on poppers, green senkos, and spinners. The bite were good in the morning but defiantly died down once it was getting close to noon. not sure if we're doing something wrong..but congrats on your smallies!

Chai, so what was the tide doing when the bite went away????  :D

I would bet the same as Sat., noon the tide was incoming and almost at dead high tide.   I caught 25 bass, all below 15" but fat, before the water got above the grass.  Then only 1 3lber for 3 hours.  Flipped grass, spinners, chatters, and the only thing I didnt throw was a -1 or crank.

What do you think??

Thanks for the report.  I'm itching to get out more than I have lately.  I'm hoping to get a few trips in this week.  Whats the size of the majority you are catching?  I seem to be stuck catching a lot in that 1.5lb range with a few larger up to 3lbs thrown in.  Its getting frustrating and I dont know if I'm fishin the wrong spots, or wrong baits or both or neither  ;)  I'll post up a report when I get out later this week

Well got out today with my dad. Turned out to be a real good day. Started off slow, real windy which limited fishable areas. Launched from a ramp at Chopawamsic Creek and ran over to the Mallows Bay area. Only managed one small one on a Manns baby minus. So ran back to the Virginia side and started fishing in areas closer to the ramp. Long story short we ended up with a 16 lb bag, not that we were fishing a tourney, I was just keeping track. The bite definitely picked up later, buzzbaits and senkos were the ticket, nothin fancy. My dad missed two pretty nice ones on a Spro frog and spinnerbait. Lost track but we caught over 20 fish, to be honest I put on a clinic for my dad. ;D Outfished him 4 to 1 or so, but I get out more then he does so I don't hold it against him. Fish were on wood, pads, spatterdock, grass, pretty much everything but grass was the biggest producer. Anybody know what some tourneys weighed in today? I'm curious to see how a 16lb bag would've done. I really just started focusing on the Potomac this past month and a half so I'm hoping things are starting to click. I've been catchign some pretty good bass this past week. I'd write more but I'm wiped. I'll post up some more info this week when I hopefully get out some more. Here's two of the nicer ones I've caught this past week. I feel like a ****** coloring the background but I found a pretty good little area that surprisingly few boats fish so I'm trying to keep it that way. But feel free to PM me I love trading info on the river. Anybody else get out?

Most of the tx's on the river are won with a 5 fish limit weighing 20lbs, so you better have a good 4lb average or get a couple of bigger kicker fish to keep you in the mix. Big fish in the tx's start at about 7lbs. I would keep your spot close to the vest as well, I don't think any one would blame you!! Nice fish!!

Maybe you could have kept that opinion to yourself. There is a group of us that like to talk openly. ;D
