NewAngler Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I wanted to start a thread for casual fisher(wo)men, everyday anglers, and just all around bass entusiast in the Fredericksburg and surrounding areas. I live in Stafford, and am boatless, and tend to fish mainly (primarily) in the revervoirs in Stafford and F'burg. I am new to fishing and have not caught a single bass, and would like to meet up with some people to find out whats going on, basically as a learnign tool. Lets hope this thread thrives, and fishing networks are made! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 Simple, go to Hunting Run Lake, rent a boat/motor, go downlake to where the houses on the left are and start fishing the shoreline in front of them on around into the cove behind them. Use a weedless wacky rigged finesse worm. Be patient and you will get your string stretched. Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Hey New, I'm in Dale City but I travel down to F'burg to fish the rap for smallies frequently at a few different locations. Also I fish Curtis and I would like to give both Abel and Motts a try eventually. We should hook up sometime. I'm boatless as well but we could always head somewhere where we could rent. Does Motts do rentals? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 11, 2009 Super User Posted June 11, 2009 The last time I was at Motts (before Hunting Run was opened for fishing), rentals were available. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 11, 2009 Super User Posted June 11, 2009 JCrzy4Bass, just to check the recent operation rules at Motts, I went to the Fredericksburg site to read them. Two things really stuck out. First was the max boat length allowed on the lake other than rowing skulls is 16' ( I have seen numerous 18'-21' bass boats there). Second electric motors powered by more than 11 volts are prohibited (they rent 12V motors there with 12V batteries) WTH ?????? Some idiot must have wrote the voltage rule. Quote
NewAngler Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Yea, I took my 3 year old out on a boat there.. Let me tell you.. I could walk on water faster than those guys. Comin back into shore the wind was to our face, and I thought we were gonna go backwards.. I don't have much free time, J, but I'm down to meet up and try it out. Wayne sounds like a strong advocate for hunting run, which is just a few miles from motts. PM me when you wanna go and try it out, hopefully our schedules work out. Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I hear you on the schedule thing new. Between my kid, work, the wife and family and such I don't get much time either. I normally have to plan a couple weeks ahead if I wanna get out with someone. Just let me know if you have any free time and when for the next couple or few weeks and we can try to figure something out. Hopefully I'll see ya next weekend. Quote
NewAngler Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Yea,j, I'm amped to finally get out with someone with some knowledge and experience. I know that my weekends are booked for the next couple weeks, but we'll stay in touch. How old is your kid? Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 He turns 9 months on the 17th. Ridiculous how fast it goes. Getting his teeth, crawling, standing, roaming around. To think 9 months ago you barely got to see him with his eyes open. Kerazy!!! Quote
NewAngler Posted June 13, 2009 Author Posted June 13, 2009 No kidding, I have 3. Girls. 7 months, 3 and 4..the baby just started crawling this week, its insane. I think I'm gonna have the first weekend in july available. Get at me..and I'm probably gonna hit some shore line off abel lakein the morning tomorrow, but won't be more than an hour and a half in Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 New, I'll have July 3rd off. That work for you? It's a friday before the holiday. Quote
