jackrules Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 hey folks new to town and looking for advice, i'm goin out to the rez tomorrow and wondered if anyone had any advice for fishing after the rain we had the last few days. was there on monday and tuesday and caught a few nice ones, nothin over 2 lbs though, all on soft plastic. my dad was getting good sized blue gills with every cast using night crawlers though, so any tips for the rez after rain? i'm leavin on sat and was hopin to catch a few nice sized ones tomorrow.. thanks Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 I would think the heavy rains would push some fish up very close to shore. Find the cleanest water you can. I fish there often and I can only imagine how dirty the water will be. Good luck. Quote
David Russell Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Fished here with a friend on Saturday morning. Hit the reservoir about 6:30 am with a rented jon boat. The water was very muddy and there was a large stream of debris down the middle of the main channel. It's my first time fishing here and my first major fishing experience in the last 10 years. We caught nothing and I only had on bite the whole morning. A fellow trolled up to a point outside one slough we were fishing and reeled in a small LMB. He said he saw the fish hit it. I asked him what the fish bit on and he said "worm." I was on a crankbait at the time, so I shifted back to soft plastics to see what I could get. But, alas, it was not meant to be for me and my buddy. We left around 11 and walked past the dock and pier. No one there was seeing much action on the small stuff either. I think the inclement weather over the past week was just a little too much. Headed to Burke Lake today (late start since I am taking the whole family.) We'll see if anything turns up. Quote
RedskinsBassmaster Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Fished Saturday from 6 to 4. River was full of debris, including whole trees. I should have brought a chainsaw! Started down, water was chocolate milk for the most of the river. Found clearer water in Sandy Run, including a nice break from chocolate to clear at the mouth. Hooes Run was also clear and picked up 5 keepers, all bucks on fry. Ran back up river and got on some better fish, identified something pretty quick and packed up for the day. Sunday fished the tourney, was able to key in on some quality pre/post spawn fish. Thats right I said PRE spawn, suprising but true. We ended up catching about 30 fish, 10-12 keepers. Best 6 weighed 20.05 lbs and was enough to win the tourney, sack included two 4 1/2 lbers, bigger of the two won big fish. All in all a great weekend on the water, even with DIRTY/high water conditions. Quote
rally Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Good job yesterday Matt. You and trevor had a sick bag. We caught limit midlake, and moved up into the river looking for the big bite. Broke off what felt to be a nice fish, but we'll never know. Caught all of our fish on jigs/shakey heads. Finished with 13. something pounds. Caught probably 20 keepers, just no size. Fun day for sure though!! I don't mind that muddy water a bit. Quote
RedskinsBassmaster Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Thanks, its been a while coming. Sorry if I should know, but who are you Rally? Quote
RedskinsBassmaster Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Rally, I just figured it out. You guys had a great day as well, just needed a big bite and another upgrade. I will be thrilled once we can start having the consistency you and brother do.Very impressed with the way you guys fish. Much Props for sure. Every time I get out I feel like im learning a little bit more about that fishery. It truely is a gem. Quote
rally Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 We try our best everytime we get out there. We've really only been fishing for 3-4 years so we're still learning a ton. We've been fishing fountainhead for the past 3 years, and still don't know a thing. We don't have any "spots" or honeyholes where we can consistently find fish, but sometimes we just get lucky and catch em. Thanks for the compliment though, it's very much appreciated. Quote
quanjig Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Very nice bag yesterday guys! Very surprised you are able to get on that nice of a bite in the super dirty water. We had a couple of nice fish come unbuttoned(3lbr throw a blade and an unknown fish of size make a mad dash under a tree). All in all very happy with 15+ lbs. It's all about time on the res = consistancy. Been fishing the tx on the res since the begining and always amazed at how things change each and every year. Keep up the good work guys. The big fun is fishing the classic at the end of the year, every one starts with 0.00 lbs! Rally.......... Pm me if you would Quote
RedskinsBassmaster Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Thanks Quanjig, something clicked Sat and it luckily it carried over. Time on the res so valuable, each and every outing yields a little more info, not always something that can be duplicated as these fish seem to roam so much, but none the less knowledge. The classic is for sure the goal, I'm determined to be there next year. This fountainhead deal is definitely awesome to be part of. Quote
rally Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Yeah that's our goal this year, to make the classic. We had some bad tournaments last month so we dropped a bit. Just have to have some consistant tourneys. Quote
RedskinsBassmaster Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 72 lbs through 7 is money, no more slips and average 13-15 lbs for the remaining 8 and I bet your in. I know you like deeper water so these next few should be right up your alley. Keep your confidence and go out and fish like you know you can. Quote
-Drums- Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Yeah, big props to Matt & Trevor for whackin' em on Sunday. Beat the next closest by about 3lbs! We just never could get a kicker--and believe me, we TRIED. Alabama did stick a real nice one in some wood..THUNK!...but it got off. In the end, it was 13 & change for us as well. Oh, and thanks for the crackers, Matt. :-) Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 Wow, that's great to hear! Nice job Matt and Trevor. Quote
stunning Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Looks like I picked up a ride for the rest of the season.........Watch out! Quote
RedskinsBassmaster Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Yep, should make things interesting. Quote
