Fish Chris Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Is that how you spell it ? Anyway, did you guys see this on Verses ? Holy #%$% ! So, I had it on this morning, but was facing my PC with the fishing programs on, pretty much for back ground noise. I hear him mention a Smallie, so I turn around, and I'm like, "Okay, that's a pretty Smallie". Then he mentions how beautiful the lake is. So I turn around and I'm thinking, this looks like a particular foothills lake in Nor Cal ;-) Then he mentions a Spotted Bass.... yea... okay. Whatever. So then he starts freaking out about "This is just a pig".... yada, yada.... I gotta play it... yada, yada.... Oh it's huge"...... Well, I'm thinking, "Yea'.... it's probably a nice 6 or 7 lb'er or something.... but of course I have to turn around and see it just to confirm..... And Whoa ! Shaw wasn't freaking kidding ! That darn thing looked like a CA trout eater ! What the heck !?!? I mean, sure, the camera man could have been filling my 46" screen with a really fat, healthy 8 lb'er (like good ol' Bill Dance ;-)..... but that darn fish was stacked ! If he would have told me it weighed 13 lb's, I'd have to believe it ! Of course he released it without weighing it :-( {or maybe he did weigh it, and it didn't weigh as much as the video would suggest, so they just edited that part out}. Either way, that was one FAT healthy girl right there ! Where the heck is Jacosse ? Does it have Florida strains ? What about the lake record ? Hatchery trout ? And darn that place was absolutely beautiful ! Oh..... and I also caught (and loved to hear) when he said, "This is just a great lake... not an easy lake... just a great one"...... And I was thinking, "Well heck yea'..... Who wants an "easy lake" filled with dinks" ? Every trophy hunter knows, tough lakes with smaller numbers of fish, are also the places that produce the biggest fish ! I'm moving to Lk. Jacosse ! :-) Please, somebody, anybody, tell me all about this place ! Peace, Fish Quote
Fish Chris Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Sorry, I couldn't help myself :-) South Carolina. Lk. Record Largemouth; 15lb 2 oz ! Whooo Hooo ! And its crystal clear, and full of trout ! They keep saying how tough it is..... How do I type the 'fart' sound ;-) Tough, crystal clear, low-numbers trophy lakes are ALL me ! Like I said, I'm moving to Jacosee ;-) Darn, if I wasn't a poor scrub...... So which of you lucky guys get to fish this place ? Fish Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Someone tired of their home water?? Pack up that new truck, we'd love to see you in the east. Personally, I have crystal New england water, come find the lake matriarch for me!! Quote
Super User 5bass Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 I saw that show too. He caught several different species of bass and one that he wasn't quite sure whether it was a largemouth or a spot or some kind of hybrid but it looked really cool. Had some off the wall markings, I've never seen any bass like it. I'm only 2 states away from SC and Jocasse is now on my radar. I'd like to get down there this fall. Come on over FC, we'll go chuck some swimbaits. Quote
rondef Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Shaw did awesome drop shotting the Rage Tail lizard in that episode. He caught some nice looking bass. Quote
Jake. Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I fished Jocassee a couple years ago. We camped out there for 4 days. It's a beautiful lake with some nice Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Spots in it. It also has trout, but I did not catch any while I was there. Quote
Randall Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 If you want to come East let me know. I have been there a time or two but like to keep it quiet. Too late for that if it's on TV. Ok , I will tell the truth. I have been fishing it since I was a teenager. ;D They will eat a Hudd there. There is a better lake than it though here in GA with trout eaters. Trout fed fish aren't just a Cali thing. Quote
Randall Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I haven't seen any recent studies but the LM have always appeared to be northern stain to me. Quote
flministock2 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I lived in South Carolina for 8 1/2 years and fished Lake Jocasse off and on. It was better known for the huge Brown Trout that come out of there. It is a difficult lake to fish for Bass. Lake is 600 ft deep at its deepest part and is mountain fed (melting snow). Has some pretty waterfalls as well. I have did my certification Dive on this lake and saw some nice size fishes and the water is cold below 10' even in summer (Brrr)! There is also Lake Hartwell with a 1000 miles of shoreline and every type of structure you can think of. My favorite South Carolina lakes to fish were the Santee-Cooper lakes (Woo Hoo)! Quote
