basslovr Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Next weekend is our clubs "top ten" classic on Lake Istokpoga and I'm in. Would anyone be so kind as to share some information on what color plastic baits are hot on this lake right now? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! Tight Lines!!!!!! 8-) Quote
gar-tracker Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I just got back from a two day, my partner went up a week ago and slayed them in the outside reeds pitching jigs on the north end. We go out the next week low and behold the fish are gone. The first day of the tourney everyone that fished inside caught good fish, we moved in the second day and caught fish all day but to little to late. The winner had a two day total of 40 something pounds. This was Friday and Saturday. The big fish moved inside the first island shallow and were hitting toads and flapping shads. One mistake we made was sticking to our pattern the first day too long, I would pitch the reeds and if their in there you'll get bit right away, jump around to the outside points don't spend a lot of time on one patch, if you cant find fish move shallow and start throwing frogs,Flukes,or whatever you like in shallow water. Theres also some nice fish in the pads that are east of Istapoka Park, if you come out of the park channel and turn east go to the end (Northeast side of the lake) you'll see some pad fields, second place came out there, we caught a lot of fish there ourselves the second day but found it too late, we nailed a 4lber, Flapping shads through the pads, its hard fishing you'll lose some fish, so use a broom stick and braid. Hope this helps good luck. Quote
westpalmfrogpunk Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Just learning that lake too. Its a great lake to fish. we fished there last week also. We found some decent fish inside the islands too. Fishing skinny dippers. But Flipping the buggy whips won the event. One group had 14 plus for a three fish limit. Pretty good fishing Quote

DINK WHISPERER Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I fish this lake every weekend but i can't ever keep a consistent pattern going! It seems like the fish move around a lot. Also, what does everybody mean when they say "on the inside of the islands"? They have no inside do they? How do you get in there? Quote
gar-tracker Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 They did when this thread was started, probably not now. Waters dropping. The trick to Istapoka is to keep moving. The week following the above post I made my partner went and came in 3rd at the Elite with 20 lbs, back to what didn't work for us the week prior. Quote
basslovr Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 It didn't go very well for me at all. Being a non-boater, I had very little say so as to where we went. We saw like 12 or 13 American flags, so wasn't sure which one you were talking about. Went across to Henderson's cove and stayed there toooooo long. My boater was not the most proficient angler when it came down to boat control. I only had two bites the whole first day. Caught nothing. The second day was a little better. I had one bite and caught the fish. 3 lbs. 2 ounces. So for two days of fishing I had three bites and caught one fish. I flipped, and flipped, and flipped some more, but couldn't buy a bite. I caught my one fish on a spinnerbait. Saw a couple of guys flippin the same thing I was and they had a limit by 10:00, so I guess I need to work on my technique or something. :'( Quote
