Hey guys its been a little while but fishing is picking up out on the Potomac, I have been out quite a bite this year and we are doing pretty well averaging 12-16# bags. I need to get bag a little bit bigger. Tournaments that I am fishing in are bringing about 20+ # bags.

Has anyone found a good bait that seems to realy work great? My first tournament is out of Pohick Bay next Saturday. I need some GOOD input. Then on 4-11 I have a tournament out of Aquia... Any help would be great

Hey Nitro I wish I could help you but I have not taken my boat out on the Potomac yet.  Good luck on the tournaments and let us know how you do.

hmm... well i would fish a jig or a t-rigged chigger craw up there this time of the year.. you just got to catch that one 6-7 lb kicker fish to win

Well we went out today... Had a great day!!!!! I want to post something in the outing section but maybe later. Our bag went 17.4 with a nice 5.3 kicker.

We were killing them on brush hogs and rattle traps.

Nice!  My three best fish this year have been on these same baits, well, lipless cranks in general, not necessarily rattle traps. Got a 4-15 last weekend on a SK red eye shad.  We fished the Potomac about a week and a half ago near the entrance of Little Hunting Creek (from the bank), the only fish was caught on a brush hog.

I was out for about five hours today, with similar results on Traps.  One 3 - 3.5 lb fish was caught on a Rapala jerkbait.

Vekol,

Where were you fishing?? I have a few good productive areas out there but I need more. I don't pressure the fish out there I just want to understand Aquia the best I can. I know a lot of guys don't like to give out there spots but i know we can do better then a 17# bag.

If you want to hook up I'll show you some of my spots and maybe you could teach me somethings.

NitroMan, my last week I caught tons of 1-2 lbers with an occasional 3-4 lber in the flats. What I've been using is a shallow running red tiger crankbait. When I switched to a 1/2 oz white colorado blade spinnerbait with white trailer I caught the one in the attached picture. Long, but not yet fat with eggs. It was in the 3-4 foot depth near shore. As for locations near pohick for large fish, in a close spot I pulled a 5+ lber, a couple of 3s and lost three other large ones, forcing me to stomp around my boat like a 10 year old. I did catch these on the red shallow crankbait with pesky 1-1.5 lbers getting in the way. Only problem is that they were isolated to one spot (literally 10 yds square) which is usually filled with 2-3 boats nearby, depending upon who gets there first. It's turning into the new Matto or P-monkey... Drop me a PM if you'd like to know more. Military is moving me out of here soon, so I don't mind letting you know of some nice spots since I'm doubtful I'll return to the Pentagon.
