chaosnut Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Anyone have any experience or a favorite heavier Shallow Cranks? I was looking at that Spro Little John It looks like a really good bait. Have any of you tried that bait? On that note also, I really don't know of that many 3/8oz+ Shallow Cranks maybe someone could point me to a list of them or maybe we could make one Quote
CJ Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Wonder, does it float? Is it a flatsided crank? Wonder how well it deflects off wood? Check out the Rat and the Mouse, they are one of the best I have found at deflecting cover and they're pretty close to 3/8 oz: http://www.wallygbaits.com/varmint_series.htm I like a heavier lure for shallow water. Aids to casting accuracy. Quote
Crankhead Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Try the Lucky Craft FatCB SSR. It's a fat crank that is 3 inches long and weighs 3/4 ounce. The Chart Magic and Creme Soda are killers with bass. You can find it at www.northerbasssupply.com. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 The orginal Mann's 1- (not the more popular baby 1-) is 3.25" long and 5/8oz. It is a pretty big bait IMHO. Quote

Turtle. Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 The Mann's C-4 Elite Series. It's a big and wide bodied crankbait, 3 1/4x3/8 Casts like a rocket and comes through cover like a 4x4 Quote
MaxDal Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 These below are what I use/have... most of them are fat cranks tough. Never tried this Spro but it looks promising anyway. Don't know that many big heavy flat shallow runners. Strike King Pro mod Series 4S = 3/8oz Mann's C-4 Elite 4 feet = 3/8oz Bagley Bagley Bulgin' B 3 = 5/8oz Original B'3 = 5/8oz Lucky Craft RC BDS 2.5 = 1/2oz RC BDS 3.5 = 3/4oz Fat CB BDS 1 = 3/8oz 2 = 1/2oz 3 = 1/2oz 4 = 3/4oz Fat CB SSR = 5/8oz Fat CB SR = 3/4oz Quote
Curado Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I like the Strike King 4S and Norman Fat Boy. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 RAPALA DT FAT 03!!!!! it weighs 1/2oz and dives to 3 feet. square bill makes it great for cover. this is one of my go to shallow cranks. they are very castable too; i can cast it a good 80+ feet on a 6'6" medium power medium action rod. Avalonjohn44 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Bagley's Bulgin' B2 and B3 are some big thick shallow cranks. I love them, they are wake baits. Bagley BB3s square lip run from 0-3 feet, and are also excellent. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 The LC Rick Clunn cranks are fairly heavy, come thru cover pretty good and cast well. Quote
dumb_dog11 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I bought a bunch of little johns at BPS on sale a few weeks ago. They are flat sided cranks that dive about 3-4ft i tried it for a few casts the other day just to see the action and it looks pretty good. Im sure that i wont be disappointed with my purchase dd11 Quote
