I live in North East PA and the ice hasn't even cracked yet on my favorite fishing spot.Looks like we will not have open water until late March/Early April A good bit of advice: Go to fishing locations and put this question up in what ever part of the country Murray is in. You will get some regional response that way. Good luck, and I can guarantee you will get more info here than any other place on the Internet. Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 lake murray is my home waters and right now the bites are few and far between. i have been out the last 3 weekends and have a total of 4 fish. I have heard a few people say to fish near crystal lake area and on up into the main rivers. you can also check sc.dnr.gov for some more tips. Good Luck !!! Quote

Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I caught 1 on a chrome rattle trap about 4-5 ft of water that was around the jake knotts bridge area, 2 in a cove across from the lake from dreher island with a storm shad looking crankbait at in about 6-7 ft of water , and 1 up past dreher island by crystle lake on a little jerk bait in about 3 ft of water. I wil fishing this weekend in the crystal lake area and up into the main rivers upon the advice from some friends and local marinas who have alot more experiance on the lake than i. ;D Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 here is the scdnr fishing report: Lake Murray: Crappie: Fair to very good. Lake Murray crappie fishing has been feast or famine recently, and on some days anglers are wearing the fish out and then the next day no one seems to get a bite. Most anglers are concentrating on the Kempson's Bridge area up the lake and tight-lining in 10 to 12 feet of water. Purple and yellow jigs are the go-to color. Catfish: Fair to good. Captain Chris Simpson reports that the blue cat bite is inconsistent from day to day, and the fish seem to be scattered and moving a lot. Best action is coming for channel and white catfish, which are holding in 10 to 15 feet of water on flats adjacent to the channel. Drifting cut herring is most effective. Striped Bass: Fair. Striper fishing continues to be fair, and in recent tournaments more than half the boats have not been able to weigh a keeper fish in. Fish are spread out across the lake, and although more boats are still fishing in the upper part of the lake, where there are more likely to be birds, fishing down the lake may be just as strong. Most boats are pulling herring, with lots of anglers using planer boards, and the cut bait bite has yet to really materialize. The water is still cold and it has been very windy. Largemouth Bass: Slow. Anglers fishing recent tournaments have had tough time, and just weighing in a fish has usually been enough to at least put you in the middle of the pack. Despite warmer air temperatures bass have stayed deep; try Carolina rigging with green worms or fishing Tennessee shad or shad colored crankbaits Quote

zgonce Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 fished my first club tournament this weekend it took 10 lbs to win the crystal lake area is the best area so far i had two fish for 4.08 lbs i caught one on a worm on a 1/4 oz jig head and one on a 3/4 oz white spinnerbait it went 3.5 lbs it was cold and rained all day everyone that i talked too was catching their fish with crankbaits on flats in 5-8 foot of water. best of luck Quote

Between now and then, I need the weather to cooperate up here in the cold, brutal north so I can install a new ducer in the boat, change out the lower end lube, spark plugs and filter. We were terrible caught 1 fish all day threw everything i had at them A little under 12 pounds won guess we were in the wrong spot with the wrong stuff anyways thats how it goes but thanks to all who gave advice. Thefishy1 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 The FOM tournament this past weekend was won fishing a jig (big suprise there) in about 21-25 ft of water in the Bear Creek area of the Lake. So in guessing that they are still in a pre-spawn pattern, especially due to this little cold snap this week. However they should start moving up to spawn here in a week or so, so start looking out for them in the lower lake. Quote
