Big Mike in Fl Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 hey everyone, just started checking out this site, it's very informative and look forward to contributing. I live in Palm bay, Florida, just north of the stick marsh, and feel pretty lucky to be able to fish it, as well as Garcia and many other awesome fisheries around here. in my ever present attempt to grow my fishing knowledge and skills, I've been reading up on Jig fishing, this is not a technique I've ever tried fishing, and with everything I've been reading, I'm not noticing much in the way of florida jig fishing, are therea lot of guys here in florida who Jig fish, or is this more of a northern thing? just wondering, I'd hate to waste my time. anyway, looking forward to lots of info, and if anyone is ever looking for someone to fish with, let me know, I don't have a boat, but I do have a tow vehicle, and all of my own gear, plus an open mind, and knowledge of some local lakes. fivesixone Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Welcome to the boards! You're lucky livin' right next to Stick Marsh! I can't wait to fish there one day! I'm no jig fisherman, since none of the lakes I fish have craws, but they definitely produce nice big fish judging by the guys on this site. There's a couple of Stick Marsh experts that should be chimin' in here soon! Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 3, 2009 Super User Posted March 3, 2009 since none of the lakes I fish have craws I admittedly hate jigs but can tell you that it doesn't make no difference whether craws are present or not. Lures that mimic or look like craws will work anywhere. If you threw a live one in a likely spot I bet it doesn't last long either ;D In other words if you are having problems nailing them on worms, senkos, flukes then give the craw a definite go and watch what happens. fivesixone Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Yeah, I'm just no good at using the darn things, so I just make up excuses. ;D ;D Quote
Super User South FLA Posted March 3, 2009 Super User Posted March 3, 2009 I don't fish jigs much either here in S FL, but I've had some luck fishing in deeper canals that have little weed. I think most Floridians opt for a t-rigged creature bait as a substitute. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 3, 2009 Super User Posted March 3, 2009 Welcome aboard! I would suggest hiring George Welcome for a day or two. That would put you head and shoulders above most of the guys trying to fish that water on their own. http://www.imaginationbassin.com/ 8-) Quote
gar-tracker Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I cant begin to tell you how many big fish I have caught on a jig and pig in Florida, from the canals in the Everglades to the lakes of North Florida. For the very reason your reading here, not many people throw them. Back when we used to eat fish, the bellys would always be full of crawdads. Especially in the canals. Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 Welcome aboard! I would suggest hiring George Welcome for a day or two. That would put you head and shoulders above most of the guys trying to fish that water on their own. 8-) George is a great guide, I've seen his posts on other boards and heard reviews from clients, however, I'm not in any position to hire a guide financially, and I frequently fish the stick marsh and garcia and others for free, I have a good friend with a Ranger that we fish from frequently. now George, thats not to say that if you needed soemone to fish with I wouldn't join ya also, thanks everyone for the replies, I do fish creatures and craws occasionally, with limited luck, but may give the jigs a chance,if nothing else to widen my experiences Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 4, 2009 Super User Posted March 4, 2009 You're missing out on a lot of bass if you're not using jigs here in S. Florida. Quote
