-HAWK- Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Gators dont jump into 19 foot boats and attack fisherman. Whens the last time you have heard of a fisherman being attacked on his boat while fishing? Just dont fall in.. ;D Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 30, 2009 Super User Posted January 30, 2009 The gators aren't gonna mess with ya, especially while you're in the boat. Stay away during mating season and don't feed them. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 30, 2009 Super User Posted January 30, 2009 Safer in a boat than on shore. Quote

surfer Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Snakes in open water will try to get on your boat for a rest. They are tired of swimming. Don't panic. The snake will climb up and then sit still to rest. Take your oar and slowly scoop under him and flip him back out of the boat. Or if you are one of these animal lover snake handlers let him rest for a while. But I recoment getting him back out quickly before he is well rested and capable of a good defense. Correct. Gators are not aggressive. Don't ever feed them. It causes them to associate humans with food witch then leads to dogs and kids being snatched from shore. But never from boats that I have heard of. You think you got problems, I'm a surfer swimming with sharks. ________\_____,\_________ ___________ Quote

Super User Sam Posted January 30, 2009 Super User Posted January 30, 2009 DJ, Being from Louisiana we learned to give the gators their space and just move on. They may check you out but they will leave you alone. If a female is guarding her babies you really stay away from her. As for snakes, if one does fall in your boat, just take the paddle, get under it, and toss it out of the boat. Then change your underwear. As for snakes in the water, only once did I have water moccasins strike the boat when fishing. Otherwise, snakes will avoid you. And remember, gators like marshmallows so don't throw any in the water!!! ;D ;D ;D Quote
gatorblazer Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Remember to never, ever, try to shoot a snake while it is in your boat. Laugh all you want to, but I have seen an idiot do it. I would however recommend shooting a Gator that got in the boat, but that's a little different Quote
fishizzle Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I can't believe a big guy like you is afraid of snakes and gators. LOL ;D ;D Quote

surfer Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 In this vid you can see just how slow a snake in the water is. I don't want to make it sound like its no big deal because this critter would have my undivided attention until he or I left the area. But you can see how easy it is to gently push the snake away. Or like this guy, whack it a few times. Not my style though. http://another site/tv_play.asp?id=119 Quote
SoFl-native Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 You have nothing to fear. Gators are scared of boats and people. Even ones that have been fed are just looking for a hand out. ^the above statement was not approved by the park worker in Lake Worth. haha Quote
gatrboy53 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 gators only eat yankees so you aint got nothin to worry about. Quote
George Welcome Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 When a gator sees you images start flowing through his brain. Boots, belts, pocketbooks, and such, are thoughts that keep them at a safe distance. However, a people-fed gator becomes quite a different creature. Do not feed the gators! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 2, 2009 Super User Posted February 2, 2009 So, I guess stray dogs and cats are much of a problem down there? Quote
