We are starting to put together an april bass trip and are considering Kerr Lake in the Clarksville area. This would be around April 16th time frame. Any thoughts on this time frame? Good time to come? Bad? What would weather/temperature be that time of year. Got to be better then Ohio in April! Are there any decent golf courses in the area if the fish aren't biting?

                                       Thanks!

Not too sure on the clarksville side of the lake as I have only fished the NC side near henderson, but one thing to watch for before you leave and to plan carefully is the wind, ( given I know this can change from day to day) from March to early May it can make or break a trip. My wife and I took a weekend trip for our anniversary in late March early may and  you couldn't  hardly cast it was so windy much less put up a tent ;D.

Just my .02 worth.

Historically its the best period to fish Buggs Island Lake. There are enough protected waters to have enjoyable fishing no matter which direction the wind is blowing-just choose the launch area accordingly.

Come on down and enjoy the fishing on Buggs!

Should be a good time to fish.

Of course, with Buggs being so big, wind can be a problem, but then again, as Wayne said, there are lots of places to fish the area.

And you can visit Bobcat's Lake Country Store and enjoy all the tackle and see if they have any special runs of specific baits for Kerr.

Get a good map of Kerr from GMCO; call 434.738.6371 for water depth (300 is normal; you want it to be higher, like 303 or 305 so the water will be in the bushes); bring you wife as there is nothing to do at night  ;); and have a good time.

One more tip.  Get a weather report as that lake can get rough if there are high winds.  :)

Buckeye, regarding golf courses, you may want to check with the place you are staying or call the South Hill Chamber of Commerce, 800.524.4347 or the Vance County Tourism, 866.438.4565.

We also have guys on the site who know the area better than me so they may give you some ideas as to golfing.  ;)

Thanks guys! I fish Champlain in July and the wind there can be a problem too at times. Taking the wife is a problem as I traded her for a bass boat several years ago. Boy did that guy get a bad deal!  Just have to drink beer I guess!

If you fish Champlain then Buggs will be a kiddie pool!  I have fished it with winds in the 40mph range (Can't believe the TD let us go that day!) and the waves got up in the 5ft range but nothing like Champlain from what I hear.  Fishing should be phenominal in April!

Hint: Take some floating worms!

Keep in mind there is always a chance that the water level could be changing and make conditions difficult. Especially if its dropping. The good part is you can go fish Gaston instead if the bite on Kerr is off. ;)
