Gibson is a small spring fed lake in Lakeland...Water was clear, 4-6 ft of visibility. I could see fish, lots of them in scattered pad in 3-4'. Â They were also up in the edge of the k-grass in 3-4'. Â No bites today. Â I caught 1 last week on a shallow crank at dusk. Â 12" but almost a pound, fat little sucker that fought like a 5 lber. surfer Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Middle lake Conway 10am to 4:30 Wind: 10 till noon; ½ mph from North (glass). Noon till 3; dead calm (glass) with occasional short lived 3 mph wind from South. 3 to 5 mph from South after 3:30 Water: 63* 12+ ft visibility. Fished a 12 ft deep hump in the middle of the lake. I could see schools of 2 and 3 lbs cruising the bottom. Netted live bait near shore. Got two 1 ½ lb bass off live bait. Two 1 ½ lb bass from a deep dive broke back shad rap. Threw a variety of small beetle spin type baits on lite and ultra lite. Bingo. A large roadrunner type bait ticking the weed tops at 9 ft down got hit 1 out of 10 casts and I watched it get followed many more times. Five 2 lbers in 30 minutes. One more in the next 30 minutes. I guess I wore that bait out. The first one I caught on the roadrunner had 6 or 10 of his classmates follow him right up to the boat. I also checked on an orange tree I sunk about 8 months back. It stretches from 10 to 20 ft deep. No fish. There was a zoo of boats chaising shad on North lake Conway. Quote

surfer Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Saturday - Secluded Lake near Moss Park with Cyprus trees all the way around. Wind was completely blocked from one shore line so that's where we fished. 9 am till 3pm Water 68 Landed about 16 or 18 bass from 1/4 lb up to 2.5 lb. We wanted to increase the size so we went cruising to the middle and charted the bottom. We found several schools suspended about 8 ft down. I quickly put my rod tip about 4ft underwater while I was reeling and landed my first ever Black Crappie. 1lb 6oz. he hit a Rapala Xrap 10cm (one of my biggest cranks). I thought it was a bass until he jumped. 6 Black Crappie in all weighing 5 lbs colectivly. Quote
bocabasser Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 saturday fished the big"O". i was culling by 7:30 and ended up in 5th place with 12.80 pounds. wind was calm until around 12 ish, then it started blowing out of the s se @12-15mph. 20 pounds one the event. last weekend fished  king of the glades first qualifier. top 4 boats automatically make it to the classic. i finished 5th----ouch!. my partner and i are the points leaders which at the end of all 4 qualifiers, the top 4 point leaders make it in as well. the water is starting to drop in the glades, so it is only a matter of time before the 30 pound bags start showing up. warmer Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 good stuff boca, i fished a couple t's. last weekend in kissimmee... saturday: caught a 2.5lber on fry early, waited too long to bail, and went to my fish in kissimmee... filled a dinker of a limit on toad up shallow in the pads, and got back to the ramp in toho 1 minute late and dropped my monster 7lb stringer to 6lbs w/ the penalty... sunday: made some good adjustments, but... trolling motor stuck on constant on by 7:15, quit altogether by 9:30 when i had just 2 in the tank... so we improvised, climbed up the bank and grabbed a couple of tree branches. Â spent the rest of the windy day in pushing our way around protected areas culling out fish... managed an 11lb 10oz stringer... there were good fish caught that day. Â 19 won, and we were 10th of 36 boats. some fish on the beds... i was on that 2lb bite let me tell you. Quote
vruter Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I am coming down later this week. Â Will be fishing Kissimmee and Walk-in-Water. Â Any suggestions on depth/patterns. Â Mostly shiners, but also some artificials to find the fish. Â This will be my first trip of the year, and would appreciate any advise on where to get started. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted January 15, 2008 Author BassResource.com Advertiser Posted January 15, 2008 vruter, Welcome to the forum. I will be fishing the K this weekend and will probably target eel grass in 4-6' of water off the Kissimmee grass with a rattle trap or a paddle tail worm in the pads in 3-4' feet. Â A cold is pushing thru right now and another one scheduled to get here Saturday so who knows what it will do to the fishing. Â My best advice is to PM rollo and ask him. Â He lives on Walk In Water and is the resident expert. Quote
bocabasser Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 i have always had huge success on walk-n-water with 7" gambler junebug worms w/ 1/4 oz. florida rattlin weight. also had success with a smithwick prop bait around the edges of grass and every type of vegetation. Quote

vruter Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Fished Kissimmee last 6 days. Fishing was good Thur-Sat, but cold front absolutely shut them down. We had pretty good success in Jack's Slough and Lone Palm, with one fish over 8 and one just under 6, but most fish in the 2-3 lb range. Tried some on Bird and around Bramha, but had very little action. We caught the big fish in 3 ft and lost one well over 10+ at the same depth. She hit a shiner half a dozen times just trying to kill it, until I ticked her off enough to finally eat. She was sitting on bed and would kill anything that came near. Awesome action as she would run the shiner to the top and bust it everytime. Too bad when I got a hook in her she jumped off near the boat :'(. We caught fish in all depths, but seemed that the bigger fish were starting to move in to bed. Good luck to all and hopefully I can make it back down later this spring. Quote

alger319 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 hey im new on here, but i fish the Harris Chain often. This is a great thread cause that chain is a pain sometimes. Im going out this Sat. for a little tourny my friends put together. i've been pre-fishin and this is what has worked for me: targeting mouths of canals flippin 1/4oz redbug paca, trickworm,or craw. pitchin a lipless crankbait around pockets in 2-5ft k-grass. and a weightless finesse worm or senko watr-red or grn-pumkin. insides of canals sould be pickin up(those with water) along with bedding activity.
