benito Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hey Folks- I live in Atlanta, GA, but am putting together a guys-weekend trip for this March. We're trying to go somewhere we haven't been.... We're looking at different places across the country to go for a long weekend - We're hoping for both size (hoping for a trophy or 2) as well as good numbers of LM Bass..... We're considering: 1) Lake Fork, TX 2) Florida (Stick Marsh? Kissimme?) 3) Guntersville, AL? 4) Dream Lake, AL? Others? We're trying to go somewhere we haven't been, and would prefer to stay somewher in the Southeast/Southwest (California/Mexico would be too far and too expensive....) Would love any input/suggestions. Thanks- BEN Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 7, 2009 Super User Posted January 7, 2009 Ben, Have you been to Varner yet? Quote
benito Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Yes - LOVE Varner - it's my favorite lake....Have been lucky enough to go with Randall Kirkpatrick (guide known for Trophy Bass), and it's been amazing each time. In fact, my PB of 9-10 was on my first trip with Randall.... I hope/plan on taking a few "personal" days this March and April to go again with Randall on Varner - he's that good.... However, for this trip, we're trying to go somewhere we've never been before - it's my one weekend "getaway" for my Birthday, away from kids/wife/job/etc, and hoping for a change of scenery. Thanks, though - You're right on about that lake..... BEN Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 7, 2009 Super User Posted January 7, 2009 Yea, Randall is a well known member of this forum and a good friend of mine. I've fished with and against him several times. My best friend is his tournament partner. He is one of the best. Any of the the lakes that you picked are great. If your looking at late March then Guntersville or Lake Fork are the best choices. If you choose to go in early April you might as well come on up to Kentucky Lake with the rest of us. Our Roadtrips are always a blast. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 7, 2009 Super User Posted January 7, 2009 Also if your set on March and you want to try for some trophy Smallmouth I know a great guide on the Tennessee River. He should be doing laps on Pickwick that time of year...... Last year he sent me several pictures of his clients holding two 6lb SM in the same picture. Quote

Super User Catt Posted January 7, 2009 Super User Posted January 7, 2009 Tom Redington Lake Fork or George Welcome Florida if they aint booked Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 7, 2009 Super User Posted January 7, 2009 Or you could postpone your trip a couple of weeks and join us on the 4th Annual Road Trip to Kentucky Lake. http://kentuckylake.bassresource.com/ Ronnie Quote
BNKrust Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Depending on when in March, I'd have to say Fork. If the temps stay above normal as they have been, the spawn should start in mid/late March and it's hard to beat Fork during that time. Only issue would be the tremendous amount of boats on the lake. Also, I'd start looking for some lodging now as rooms will be nearly impossible to find soon. Quote
ring fry Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 FORK during the week, but not on weekends in March. Have made the trip from Kansas 40+ times in the last 15 or so years. The other bonus is that there are tons of other good lakes within an hour or so from there if the wind gets up or it is too crowded. Go to east Texas, you won't regret it! Quote
Btech Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Wait until april and come on the kentucky lake trip with us! Quote

CFFF 1.5 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 The Stick Marsh, will be really hot in March. Go there. That is where I got my DD my second time there. Quote
Land Surveyor13 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I'd say wait and go to Kentucky Lake too. I would like to go but I have a date with a few lakes in CA around that time. Thanks for the heads up Branuss04. : Quote
