rondef Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Has anyone fished Lake Anna lately? I am going fishing there this weekend and I am curious what types of baits are working down there this time of year. I will be fishing down near Dike 2 & 3 and I am hoping to catch a few. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated, I know the folks fishing the winter series tournaments look like they are still catching some nice bass. Quote
VekolBass Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Don't have a clue. The few times I have been there in the winter it has been a waste of time. I know that a lot of striper fishing using cut bait is done this time of year though. I was told you need to be on the water before first light. Brrrr. Quote
rondef Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Jason and I have been reviewing the Lake Anna map, the fishing reports and the weather and we have picked out a few places to try fishing at. I have never had much luck at this lake in the past but I haven't fished at all in the last six weeks and I have cabin fever now, so I fiigure why not make the trip. We made this trip last winter and got skunked but we still had a good time. I think we will be better off this time since we have been preparing for this trip. If I don't catch any it is ok I will still be happy to be able to get out on the water again with my son. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 18, 2008 Super User Posted December 18, 2008 If the sun is shining, fish the sunny side of bridge/road rip rap. Quote
rondef Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Thanks Wayne. I just got this from Charlie at NHBA, they fished there last weekend and he was able to provide some good information to me. Most of the fish were taken on soft plastics (Senkos, Baby Brush Hogs and other assorted creature baits), deep diving crankbaits and small spinnerbaits. The spinnerbaits were slow-rolled in the grass on the upper end of the lake, crankbaits were retrieved very slowly on drops adjacent to docks and the plastics were fished everywhere, both shallow and deep. The hot side gave up a bunch of fish on points, docks and rip-rap. The same baits took the fish there. In addition, Rat-L-Traps were the big ticket on the points. Plastics around docks and Carolina rigged in deep water. One other bait that should work, but nobody tried it, is a spoon. I have always had good luck with a Hopkins 1/2-3/4 oz. Shorty spoon and a 5/8-3/4 oz. Silver Buddy. Both of these baits produce very well for me. Last trip out on the Occoquan River on Dec. 6, my partner and I caught over 100 bass on Silver Buddys in 12-18 feet of 41 degree water. Quote
drmnbig Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I know it's too late but Dukes Creek across from Dike 1/2 is great for me this time of year. On the right hand side heading in the cove looks like nothing but a slow turning bank. About 50-75 yards off the bank is a dropoff that will net some decent bass this time of year. There is some chunk rock on it with the occasional twig that will hold bass. Good luck! Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 21, 2008 Super User Posted December 21, 2008 Good report, Ron. One Fish Anna can be a difficult place to fish anytime of the year. When is Jason going to update his blog? Are you heading to BPS soon???? Quote
