MattStrykul Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Got out on the river today with my bud pigsticker. Started off extremely slow. Didn't even get a bite for 2 hours. Picked one up on a jig in about 8 feet of water right in front of the kennedy center and after that didn't get another bite for a good 40 minutes. We decided to move up to key bridge and try fishing around there, fished the VA side of the wall for a while then moved to the pylons where the bite REALLY picked up. I started with a jig and wasn't gettin bit then finally just said screw it and started tossin the drop shot. Got 3 bites from little pesky small mouth and didn't land any of them. I was gettin excited and reeling to fast I guess, or they were just so small but I decided on my next bite I'd just let it take it until I was positive it was hooked. Sure enough, next cast I got a bite. Let him take it and it turned out to be a beautiful 2.5lb smallmouth. After that I started catching them every ten minutes or so, sometimes consecutive casts. I was getting them on trick worms in junebug and a 1/4oz weight. I then switched to a black/blue reaction innovation beaver and the fish were just slammin them. Every cast I seemed to get a bite. I ended up with 11 smallmouth and 1 largemouth, and missed many more. Pigsticker had a bit harder time and came out with a goose egg today but he did miss a nice smallmouth that looked to be 2lbs. He beat me last time though so I'm sure he'll come back Great day overall. Matt Strykul Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 5, 2008 Super User Posted November 5, 2008 Drop shot showed they were near the bottom. Did you throw a wacky or shaky head presentation for largemouth? What about a deep diving crankbait to tear up the bottom? Just wondering. Quote
MattStrykul Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 I was thinking about throwing a deep crank but I was just having to much fun catching them on the dropshot. Quote
Maloverde Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 How late in the year are you fishing on the Potomac? Thanks for the report! Quote

Pigsticker Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Yeah I was pretty bummed that I did not save the picture, but he'll just break it next time so it doesn't matter much Quote
