mifon Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I have a tournament on Westpoint Oct. 11. I've never been on it. Can anybody help me with the wheres and hows to catch some bass??? Thanks Mike in TN Quote
senko_77 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Oy. West Point. That's a tough lake. There are some giants in there, but it can be hard. Well no.....it's always hard. The best thing to do is just fish like you would on any lake in fall and hope you find a good population of fish. Fish backs of pockets and creeks with crankbaits or lipless crankbaits. That's what I would do. Good luck! Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted October 2, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted October 2, 2008 I have fished it about 10 times out of Highlands and Yellow Jacket but not since last Thanksgiving. At that time I was catching Spotted Bass on a Yellow Spinner bait fished shallow around balls of shad or a chrome/black rattle trap dragging over rock ledges. surveyor13 fishes all the time and would be your best bet for current info. Also you can get some info from here http://www.havefunfishing.com/fishingreports/sr_westpoint_lake_fishing_report.htm. Good Luck and let me know how you do. I'm going back this thanksgiving. Quote
Land Surveyor13 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I'll be there tomorrow and again on Sunday for a tournament. And the my club's classic is the weekend after you fish. Check out the Have Fun Fishing Report above and this one: http://www.fishwestpoint.com/westpointlakefishingreport I'll report back tomorrow and again after Sunday to let you know what I catch them on. My favorites are the road beds, stands of trees, submerged ponds and the islands created by the creeks merging together. It is a frustrating lake. If you can practice. Good luck. Jerrod Quote
Land Surveyor13 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Fished 3 hours today. From around 2:00 - 5:00. I stayed off of my best producing spots but fished some other ones I have caught fish off of. I fished rock beds, submerged ponds and islands. I caught 1 or 2 fish and left. Baits used that produced were Strike King Rattle Trap in Sexy Shad and Sexy Shad Chrome, White and Chartreuse Spinnerbait's and drop shot rig with a shad colored soft plastic. I can get exact colors and style if needed. Used the drop shot mainly in the submerged ponds and the other 2 everywhere else. Lake conditions were: water temps in the mid 70's, really windy(white caps on main lake) and partly cloudy. I'll report again on Sunday. Wish me luck. I have really stunk it up this year in our club. mifon Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 Thanks for your report. I'll look forward to your story about Sunday - and GOOD LUCK!!!!! Mike in TN Quote
Land Surveyor13 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 All I can say is Thank God this years tournament season is coming to a close in 2 weeks. Hopefully 09 will be better. I have had terrible luck this year. Anyway I found more of the same as i reported above. Except all of the fish were small. I weighed in 5 1lb fish. Oh well. Good luck in your tournament and I hope the fish have moved up shallower to feed for the winter. Jerrod Quote
