basslovr Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 There was a report on our local news channel of reported fish kills in central florida due to excessive rains from Faye. Can anyone verify or dispute these reports? :-? Quote
GLADES Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I have not heard about this. The rain run off is likely to contain a plethora of pollutants. Hopefully, if it is true, it is confined to a small area. Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I have heard or seen none. Quote
surfer Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 2nd hand report from a guy on the st johns. He said the fish were gulping air at the surface. lack of oxygen in rain water dosn't make since to me , but maybe. :-? i havn't seen any myself Quote
avid Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I heard that Ansin Garcia had some. Can't say how much. I didn't hear about any in the stick marsh. All of the lakes got deluged and I think rose to record levels. That was some rain!!! Quote
gar-tracker Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 There was a minor fish kill in the Buckhead Ridge canals on the north end of Okeechobee, that last band of Fay dropped about 6 inch of water in 2 hours, it depleted the oxygen and killed a bunch of fish in the canal only not out in the lake. basslovr Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 Thanks for the responses guys. I know there are a lot of clubs around the state with tourneys comin up and we certainly don't need any added pressures on the resource. Tight Lines!!!! Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 There have been some pretty significant fish kills in the Deland/Astor area. I have personally seen a lot of bluegill dead/dying and have seen two 7lb bass and 4lb bass as well as smaller bass dead. The river I believe is still closed to boats south of Marker 38 I think and North of that is Idle speed. I hope this sorts it self out pretty soon. Quote
