Looks like fall has arrived. Water temp was at 75 when I put in at 6:15 this morning. Baitfish are moving in schools in the creek, at least to the railroad bridge, and the bass are on em. Caught 10 in 2.5 hours--even with a bad trolling motor. Spinnerbaits with silver double willow blades. Recommend something white and/or translucent--matches the shad. Fish between the matted grass and where you don't see grass on your graph any longer. They seem to prefer hydrilla, so fish it when you find it. Most of the vegetation is what I call eel grass--looks like 4ft long lawn grass, and they don't seem to like it as much. Have a senko nearby to throw as a follow-up bait. Also, wear long pants. There are hoards of biting flies around.

The biting flies were active at Hunting Run Lake yesterday. They seemed to prefer my ankles.

I fished ponds all weekend in eastern VA and had the same problems bites all around my ankles

My dad in an attempt to out smart me wore really long socks and got bites all along the upper legs ;D

Yep, ankles are their preferred target. They also seem to be immune to bug repellant.  >:(

Good report Vekol, thanks for the update. I fished the Occoquan yesterday and today and the flies were out there as well. I got bit about 30 times yesterday so I decided to wear jeans today.

I found them to be on the spinnerbait bite today too. I was at one of the local ponds/lakes and was able to knock the fire out of them in one area with a bluegill patterned spinnerbait. Good to see them back on the spinnerbait.........A little early to call it a fall pattern..... :-/

Super report.  Thanks,

I was going to try to go out with Rondef this week or next week but my schedule has destroyed that opportunity so your report is a great help.

I will also wear jeans and a long sleeve shirt when I hit the water for my recon mission on Wednesday, September 3rd.  :)
