LCpointerKILLA Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I'm moving to Boca in a little over a week, and I'm going to need somebody to fish with, or tell me about some hot spots! and maybe even where I can catch a peacock bass... Quote
gar-tracker Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Do you have a boat? If you do your about an hour from the south side of Okeechobee, lake Ida ans Osborn are a short trip north, loxahatchee reserve has some great fishing in the spring with lo water. If not theres 100s of mile of canals throughout Palm beach and Broward county, for Peacock its best to fish south Broward or Dade. Alan Zarhemba is an excellent Peacock guide who specializes in the Urban canals throughout the area. Quote

GLADES Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Welcome to South Florida. Right now your best bet is fishing at the south end of Loxahatchee at first light - 10 AM. If you google earth search, then zoom in on the satelite view, you can see the cuts leading into the sawgrass flats. The best cut in my opinion is between the 1st and 2nd spill way while heading west. it opens up pretty nice back there. Its easy to get lost back there, so keep a tab on your position and your route back. Use senkos, soft platics, top water plugs, and shallow running crankbaits. When the weather starts cooling off, and the rainy season is over, the canals at Holiday Park, Sawgrass, and the boat launches along alligator alley are great. There are so many great places to fish in south and central florida that are only a short drive. Kissimee, ToHo, Istokpoga, Stick marsh, blue cyprus, etc... Quote
fivesixone Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Sorry to hear you're moving to Boca. x2! ;D ;D ;D Every single residential lake over there is posted no fishing. And that's no fun. Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 I live in Orlando right now but I'm going to FAU. So unfortunately will not have a boat or anything like that Quote
fishingfourfun Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Ah FAU (Finished and Unemployed or Finished and Underemployed). I graduated from FAU in 94. I wish I could go back. There will be more places to fish than you can imagine. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted August 13, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted August 13, 2008 PM BocaBruce. He lives down there and will hook you up. Quote
bocabasser Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 wow there seems to be some boca haters out there. when are you coming down LC? i also graduated from FAU in 1999. i actually live between fau and the hospital. there are numerous places to fish from land. i just fished lake ida last night and caught 10 fish with my biggest 5 going around 12 pounds. loxahatchee is red hot right now and the holey lands has some decent fish. hey (lee)fishindaddy im going to istokpoga next month--when was the last time you were there? to all you boca haters---don't hate because i live 3 miles from the beach and minutes away from world class peacock and bass fishing. Quote
fivesixone Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 to all you boca haters---don't hate because i live 3 miles from the beach and minutes away from world class peacock and bass fishing. I ain't hatin' (except all the residential lakes). I don't mind Boca too much, but the canals there are very far from world class peacock fishin. Quote

I will be moving in on the 22nd but will have too much to do to go fishing. I will probably first go fishing a few days after that. Quote
regretlove Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Welcome to sunny South Fl...(except in the afternoon..lol) I agree that it is harder to find good spots in Boca - come up north a bit and there are less "no fishing" signs. Lots of local lakes with plenty of bass. Send me a PM after you get down here and maybe we can get a group together. Quote

I'd be down for a group outing or maybe even a little tourney or somethin if we could arrange it! Quote
bocabasser Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 i will agree there are too many gated communities and areas that are posted no fishing, but you have to be crafty. i usually ask family and friends if they know anyone who lives in a particular community and i beg, grovel, bribe, do whatever it takes to get on that guest list. once your in, your in. LC let me know when you are settled, and i will take you to lox. the place is red hot right now. 561-i guess i should have said state class peacock bass fishing. catching 3-5 pounders is pretty darn good for down here. if you guys get a little outing together, let me know and i will try to swing it. regretlove Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 561 - I'm in west Boynton Bch. Lots of nice neighborhood lakes here Quote
Super User South FLA Posted August 19, 2008 Super User Posted August 19, 2008 Send me an PM when your down here. I have a honey hole for peacocks in Davie and have some hot spots north of you in Wellington and North Palm Beach. In S. Florida you really can't go wrong fishing most canals and lakes, sometimes the most overlooked canal has some hogs. Boca is a bit tough but google earth it and you'll find some spots. I went to grad school at Find Another University (FAU), but I am Nole to the end. Quote
Speed Worm Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Do as I did. Get a little Pond Prowler and hit Loxahatchee. Don't even waste your time anywhere else. Quote
