Thanks flippin4it, I was in no way bothered by your message. I really was interested in Fountainhead and it's potential. When I discover a productive body of water like Hunting Run, my intent is to let others know about it so they can have the opportunity to have the same success that I experience. In one's lifetime, the chance to fish a newly created body of water is very low. I have been around long enough to have fished 10 different newly created lakes at the time of opening for fishing.

Cool, check out Fountainhead. It fishes really big, if you know what I mean.

we left mid day at around 12. Andrew and I boated three, 1 and 2 respectively. There were a ton of boats out there today.

Afterwards we went wading for smallies, when I left at around 3 Andrew and I got pretty much skunked ... even though we were targeting panfish, lol. Our friend Jeremy did get a good 2lb 10oz smallie though!

Did you go to the Rapidan? If so, did you go upstream past the bridge or downstream?

Yes we did, we went up river. We got shoulder deep in some water. If we were so tired we would have fished it more and better. The heat was killlller.

Cool. I have to try upriver, I've always gone downriver

I wish I knew what you meant  ;D.

Fished the fountainhead tourney yesterday and did okay...Caught 5 keepers for 11.33 pounds. Not too bad, just couldn't find them. Quite a few guys had a hard time though, many leaving early and (what seemed like) few with limits. Caught our fish early in the day and struggled after about 11 oclock. Talk about a long, HOT day.

Flippin, I didn't see Gerkin there! I was gonna apologize for idling over his spot but I didn't see him once... :-??

Matt, Gerkin is cool with the whole thing, his fill in partner was crying because he did'nt know where Gerkin was fishing. LOL, it turns out to be a misunderstanding on there boat not yours!! ;D

Not to bring up any arguments again but I've fished both Fountainhead and Hunting Run and they've got their good and bad days.  I think at the Res its much more important to know the area to catch quality bass but that might just be that the Hunting Run bass havent seen as many baits.  I've fished Hunting Run a handful of times and caught bass up to 4 lbs there and have seen some of the monsters Wayne has pulled out.  He posted a pic of an 8 lber he caught in the spring on here if I remember correctly and in the little shack by the ramp theres other pics of some 6 lbers and what not he's caught.  They're in there  ;).  On the same note there's nice bass in the Res too.  By the way Wayne the wacky rig you told me about in the spring has caught me some quality bass this summer, thanks again.

same thing happened to me today at pocahontas state park.  I was trying out my new hobie and pitching a tube into branches when a 3lb cat hit...All it wanted to do was stay down, felt like i was fighting a log that could dive, lol

Nice bass, quick question Wayne, how often do you insert a finishing nail into the head of the worm?  I'd assume that if you caught that in 15 feet you would've.  And do you insert a whole nail or cut it in half?

If I am fishing deeper than 5', I use the finishing nail most the time and some of the time with fishing shallower. I always use the whole size 3d finishing nail. I use the 3/64 oz Lunker City lead nails for deeper than 15' or deeper than 10' if it is windy. In the deep grass like at Hunting Run, I just use the finishing nail if grass is the pattern. That type of grass is not sturdy enough for any more weight.  Sometimes for a quick weight addition for deeper water, I will add an additional finshing nail in the worm tail too. My preference is to use no added weight if possible no matter what the depth is. Fluorocarbon line as a leader on braid is my primary weight.

About 10 minutes earlier, I caught this one in about 15' with a wacky rigged finesse worm after seeing it with my sonar:

Hhhhmmmmmmm, there are sizeable fish in there.. ;D  Nice fish Wayne.
