Irish_Bassman Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 ive been fishin the past three days (had a lot of time of) and so far it hasnt been too hateful. im used to illinois where i could hit any river i came across and knock decent sized smallies off all day long. BUT, im slowly getting the hang of this florida largemouth game. here are a couple from the past 3 days caught these two out of lake tarpon That little bluegill thought he was something else. put up a little tussel on light tackle. and the bait was as big as he was ;Ds and these 3 came out of a local disc golf course/park in clearwater. people told me that no one catches anything there, but i beg to differ. got my PB florida bass there this afternoon 8-) all the pics were taken with my cell phone, some of them are better than others due to the lighting. the lil lady i caught today was probably close to 3 1/2lbs. and then another one at 3 yesterday. ive had some amazing blow ups out of this lake but only managed to land 3 > its ok though. im gonna get um eventually. and so i dont leave out any info i was using gambler frogs in cane toad color and these ribbit frogs my buddy sent me i was fishing in and around the weed mats and along bank cuts. ton of action, just wish i wouldve landed more than i did. :-/ Quote
b@ssman Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Nice work...I believe the second pic is a warmouth. Quote
Irish_Bassman Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 i forgot to mention something interesting i found out about this park i was at today. apparently, there is a thriving population of what appears to be fresh water aquarium sucker fish. ya know, the ones that just sit on the glass and do nothing? these things are everywhere! is this normal for down here? first time ive seen it. i found this picture, and i guess they are plecos. maybe more of you seasoned guys can fill me in on if this is normal or not. Irish_Bassman Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Nice work...I believe the second pic is a warmouth. i thought that might have been what it was. but to me they are all baitfish lol. Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 yeah the plecos are REALLY common were I fish heres one my friend snagged on a crank bait Quote
Irish_Bassman Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 wow havent seen any that big. i was tryin to snag one today just to get a better look at it. im not used to seeing those lol. hell, tilapia freaked me out when i first saw em. its all new to me down here ;D Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I've cought some huge tilapia to ( they some times eat worms and grass shrimp) The farther south you go the stranger it gets. The cannals down south hold some crazy exotics and salt water fish to. Quote
fivesixone Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Nice fish man! Florida fishing is awesome! I've been killing em with frogs down here in Palm Beach also, along the weedlines and in the lilly pads. I think you're gonna grow to love Florida and it's awesome fishing! Quote
btcprince Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 plecos and tilapia are everywhere. wait til you get a bowfin....for a minute you will think you have a monster bass lake tarpon is a good lake once you get familiar with it. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 18, 2008 Super User Posted July 18, 2008 We have all king of junk in out waters. Lake Okeechobee has 400 different species of fish. Those sucker looking fish are everywhere down here in Palm Beach. Are they useful for anything or are they for "hunt and kill"? Quote

earthworm77 Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Irish, PM your address, I'm going to send you some frogs that I pour. Those ribbits, the plastic is too hard and the legs don't move enough water. I hope your using a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG Gammie with those. Quote
fivesixone Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 That frog looks bad***! Never seen it before... Where can I get some of them?? Quote
gar-tracker Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Ditto on the frog brother that looks killer, i love anything with those little paddle legs like on that, they make more noise the any of the other paddles, curly etc.. I use the Manns little grub tails for spoon tailors that have legs like that. I cant wait till the grass in Okeechobee gets some water iv been watching it grow for 3 years now, only not to be able to reach it. if it gets to 13 by late winter you better pour a 1000 of those things.
