Guest avid Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Glad to bring y'all a few chuckles. I don't think the fat ika is going to be the "breakout bait", because I don't think the tournament pros throw it much. Not because it's a secret. Trust me, if you and I know about it than the pro's certainly do, but because it is a big fish lure. Now we all have seen a six inch bass hit a 12" bait, but the senko will catch the "keeper" bass the pros are looking for. Also it doesn't lend itself to "power fishing" that seems to have swept the professional ranks in recent years. It's a great bait for sure, so I could be dead wrong on this but my gut tells me it's going to be a high end Japanese crankbait, or a custom crank that's going to impress at some tournies and bust out. P.S. wheres Muddy's monica post? 8-) Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Yikes ive been censored my mistake Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I don't know for sure, but I was fishing senkos the year before they hit, the shaky rig same time, had a chatterbait that caught a few before I lost it and couldn't find any more... My guess is the hula grub will be the hot lure this year, because that has been my latest, greatest. But I can't be sure, because I still haven't caught a fish on a swimbait or a drip *****. So I'm going with the Weather Channel lure. The one that changes on your rod mid-cast. Youthought you threw a swimbait, it's a drop shot when you get it back to the boat. Throw that drop shot out there, reel up a chatterbait. Throw that chatterbait, reel in a senko. Lure subject to change without notice. But they're pretty, Raul. I'll sell you the first one for 1,000,000,000,000,000 ;D Quote

Super User FishTank Posted January 8, 2007 Super User Posted January 8, 2007 I have just ordered a new 3d yozuri crank (1st one on the left). Looks different and I hope, promising. Maybe it will be my lure of the year. I will let you know. Quote
Guest avid Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Im gonna have to go with the Furbit Frog Legs are made of rabit hair and a little colorado for extra flash and vibration in open water I think that's a great looking bait, Those rabbit fur legs must move incredibly in the water, but that little spinner blade looks like a problem to me. The beauty of the frog is that you can fish it through anything, the slimiest goop in the lake. That blade looks like a weed magnet. Quote

Also it doesn't lend itself to "power fishing" that seems to have swept the professional ranks in recent years I am sorry, but I have to disagree. IMHO the Ika is 10 times the "power fishing" lure that the senko is. What other plastic can you chuck that far without a weight. I am always able to cover more water with an Ika than with a senko. I really am afraid that it will finally be outed as the fish magnet it is. Just glad I overloaded on them in the bargain boat at cabelas! Quote
justfishin Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I am sitting here laughing at myself. I thought---before I joined this forum---that I had the ultimate top secret for this area as I had not seen or heard of anyone throwing them( Ika ) and bammmm, my bubble was busted. I used those Ika's for the first time last spring and they waxed a lot of fish. It is annoying though. I hate throwing senko's and Ika's because it is just too slow for me. I like to pitch, hop, hop, reel, pitch, hop, hop, etc, etc, and cover water and I try not to use these slow falling baits but, they just work. Please, someone help me leave those things alone. They should pin the phrase " aholic " to these baits. I am starting to feel like I need to say " Hi, my name is Jim and I am a Senkoholic and Ikaholic". Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 8, 2007 Super User Posted January 8, 2007 Its the one I just hung up and lost. No question about it. Quote
