knownfactor Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 so superspook and i went out yesterday morning to Lake Frederick. Got there at 6 and noticed that the bait shop didnt open till 8 so we couldnt rent a boat so we worked the shore to the left and around to the first cove until 8 had 1 bite in 2 hours. After we got our boat we flipped brush hogs in the 14ft tall grass they have everywhere and only managed to pull 1 2lber out of there. we must have tried everything from cranks, jerks, different plastics, spinners, jigs, shakey heads, sinkos wacky rigged and only pull that 1 fish from 6am to 130pm. this lake is by far the hardest lake ive ever fished and there were a crap ton of boats in the water...and lots and lots of tall grass probably wont go there again until the water is much warmer and in the middle of the week when billy bob and his 20 cousins dont have there boats in the water. Anyone else having any luck at this lake this year? or is it a lost cause? Quote
A.Do? Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 aw shucks, billy bob was out there?! I told him to give me a calll! Sorry no info on frederick. i just couldn't resist responding. but i am interested in it though! Quote

flippin4it. Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 From the guys I talked to about it, it seems kinda Burke Lake-ish. Big fish and over fished. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 20, 2008 Super User Posted May 20, 2008 From the guys I talked to about it, it seems kinda Burke Lake-ish. Big fish and over fished. that's exactly what I thought the time I went. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I kayak fish Lake Fredrick several times a month because it is close. It is very tough fishing but there are some very big fish in the lake. In the spring Bandit 200s and 300s and Rapala DTs work OK. In the summer the weeds are amazingly long and the water gets very clear. I only catch fish on trick worms and senkos worked very very slowly, and sometimes in the middle of the week on DTs. I want to give Ikas and Lake Fork Shads a try this year. I have heard that the drop shot technique works well here, but from a Kayak that is pretty much impossible. Quote
FRfisherman Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Lake Frederick is definitely tough to fish, i'm there about 4 or 5 times a week bank fishing and most days I go without a bite. I've tried everything from soft plastics to cranks and spinnerbaits and the only luck i've had was by drop shotting some creature baits. Other than that it's usually skunk city Quote

jeepcrazy Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Hardest lake in the area to fish in my humble opinion, but it's close so I fish it all the time. I've only had a chance to fish once this year and I pulled a 6# out on a watermelon senko, but it's tough going once the grass gets too tall! Quote
JShrock07 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 So from what I am reading ya'll it seems like ya'll wanna give up on this lake. If anyone would like to go there let me know I have never been fishing at this lake but what the h*** I'll give any lake a try! I like the challenge and I can not stand getting skunked but it gives me a reason to keep fishing as long as I possibly can!!!! Quote
JShrock07 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Sounds like an invite to me haha Unfortunatley I have the rest of the week pretty much booked up but in 2 weeks I will have a good amount of time off and Id love to try it out if you want. Quote
rondef Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nitro, just let me know when you want to go. I have another comp day that I need to take before the end of the month. Quote
JShrock07 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 haha you sound like me I have 1 more day I need to take too!!! I will see what I can do!! Quote
jeepcrazy Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Anytime someone would like to fish Lake Frederick and I'm in town I'm all over it. I have a boat and love to go, I just don't always have a fishin' buddy. Quote
JShrock07 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Well do you know much about the lake itself?? I have a boat as well what size do you have? Quote
jeepcrazy Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Mine is a 17' Xpress. I know the lake reasonably well, but I still learn something new every time I hit it. The late thermally stratifies once the weather gets hot and the bass suspend in open water for most of the day. They're hard as hell to get at that point and they're usually suspended over relatively deep water. There are several beaver dams that are good busy work for those times of day though, and the frog bite is a blast in the morning and evening over the grass mats. Quote
jeepcrazy Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 What is your schedule like? PM me and we'll figure something out. I've been running around on the river lately, I can use the motor and the breeze is nice. Quote
