Chattahoochee River

Looking to fish the Cattahoochee River, launching from Columbia Alabama. Any and all suggestions on baits, hot spots, things to look for,etc. Looking for someone who has experience on this or a similar river. Thanks guys!!

Did you go to Google Earth and find the river and then "fly" over it to find the hidden creeks, ponds, etc.?

Good luck and go out and beat those Auburn War Eagles, Plainsmen, Tigers or whatevers.

I use google earth first before I do anything else. I have marked some spots. I have fished this river for bream and catfish. So I am familiar with the hidden coves and places like that. Just trying to find someone to help out with bait colors, styles, ... the works.

Hey David,

   If its a river system then I think you'll have a great time. If its anything like the Alabama river then the fish are in a transitional period and they are EVERYWHERE! They can be caught shallow and deep. The best advice I could say is to focus on the outside of the river bends. You can usually find ledges that will create eddies in these places. These eddies are loaded with bass, especially spots . The inside of those turns will normally hold some type of buckbrush or laydown. They are usually good places to look for largemouth. If I was to pick two lures to use, I'd use a shad colored crankbait (10-12ft diver) and a worm. I adjust the weight for the current so you can still feel it but the color doesn't matter much. Most days I like red shad and motoroil but thats just me. I hope that helps. Good luck Bud

Good luck Dave, I'm just up the road a bit from you.  We launched from that particular launch several weeks back in kayaks and fished.  That particular day we didn't have any real luck, but we saw a ton of snakes on pilings, docks, and over-hanging limbs so watch out.

Normally the wife and I do really well on spinnerbaits and big cranks when we get around the hybrids.  (and usually get LMB on the same things).

As a specific spot, just north of the Columbia boat ramp where 52 crosses the river, that bridge is a good spot.  On the north side of the bridge, one of the center pilings, in about 30 feet of water I came across a big school of fish.  They lit up the fish finder and we pulled a bunch of hybrids there.

Don't be so sure about that Rob.  there are plenty of bass in the Hooch around Atlanta, but don't tell anyone.
