Super User Root beer Posted March 16, 2008 Super User Posted March 16, 2008 I cut off a really small piece of a tooth pick, just enough where I can pull it out the weight and my question is will the tooth pick eventually fray out my 20pound power pro braid line? I want to peg my 1/2 ounce xcalibur tungsten weights for lake guntersville and been looking around at some peggin system, but I think i may end up sticking with the tooth pick, but since I dont have any experience using 'em I wasn't sure if it'll fray out my line and I'll lose a monster fish. Super User Catt Posted March 16, 2008 Super User Posted March 16, 2008 Tooth pick vs. tungsten vs. braid; no problem Quote
guitarkid Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I think I would rather get some Tru-tungston screw in weights. -searoach Quote

Ive never used the tru-tungsten brand, but the lead ones I have just screw up my plastic. Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I use tooth picks, never had a problem Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 16, 2008 Super User Posted March 16, 2008 Try a bobber stopper and a small bead. Put these on the line before the weight, then slide them down to meet the hook. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 17, 2008 Super User Posted March 17, 2008 No probs with a toothpick especially on braid.Aint gonna hurt a thing. I keep a large straightened out paper clip with me to pop out the toothpicks with so I can switch between pegged and unpegged easily. Quote

Just_Old_Fisherman Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I like the rubber peg-it type stops. I know they won't damage my line. Not so much a problem with braid but you really have to be careful when using mono/fluoro and pegging with a toothpick. I found some at Academy and even cheaper than these in a 100 pack. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_30021_100010003_100000000_100010000_100-10-3 Quote
Daiwa Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Im confuzed, can someone explain this tooth pick thing to me? Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 The toothpick thing: Take a bullet worm weight slide it on your line as normal Take a round toothpick and force it into the bottom of the weight Break the toothpick off.If there is anything left trim it flush with scissors. Add your preferred hook for the bait you are using. Slide weight against the top of your worm/plastic. Use in heavy cover or when casting pitchin/flippin into brush. Can also be slid up the line to create a makeshift splitshot rig. People complain that it will damage your line, but unless you are using like 6lb or less mono or some thin flouro it isn't an issue.
