Peter E. Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Have any of ya'll fished Weiss lake lately? Whats the water like? How are the bass doing? Are they bedding? Where are they stageing? What is the weed cover like? What is the Forage? Anybody? Anything? Thanks Fellows, Peter Quote
RichardE Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hey Peter, me again. I fished a BFL there two weeks ago. The fish had not moved up then, but it could have changed since then. The nearby water I fished this weekend was 62 degrees so Weiss so be close to that or warmer. It was very stained when I was there and we just had a lot of rain so it may stained again. There are tons of docks and lots of wood to throw to . As for as forage that lake is packed with shad, I don't recall seeing that much bait anywhere. The threadfin shad are about 3 inches long right now. We caught fish on blades, rigs and got a few good jig bites. What little grass is there on the shore was barely in the water but may covered better by now. Quote
Peter E. Posted April 8, 2008 Author Posted April 8, 2008 Thanks, thats the kind of stuff I'm looking for. How did you do in the Tournament? Quote
RichardE Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I finished 12th of 170 boats. Shoot me a pm if you are planning to go soon and I will try to give you some specific areas to check. Quote
Mottfia Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Hey Pete, Hope to see you there. remember to check the cyprus trees in the middle of the river with a pink eyes hollapopper. lol Quote
Peter E. Posted April 10, 2008 Author Posted April 10, 2008 Dale you know as well as I do that those things are deadly. How are you liking the forum? Quote
Mottfia Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Its pretty good. Love the articles and interviews! I think our teams are looking good for the tournament. We've got a game plan ready to go. Auburn spoke good about you. They said you are full of ideas. Quote
Peter E. Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 Really I didn't know I had done anything good to talk about. Well I appreciate it. You ready to paddle the cahaba with me and Josh yet? Quote
Mottfia Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Ha always. I would say let's wait about a month longer but thats never stopped us before. I have two more weeks of tournaments before I can say I'm free but I could sure use a strong Spot on the other end of my line. The tournament went alright. it was a small thing. small lake, small fish, small lures, small total weight. But it was for the school so it didn't bother me. We finished 3rd if that means anything. GSU_Fishing Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Peter E...Mottfia, you guys fishing the collegiate tourney this weekend on weiss?? are yall ready?? Quote
Mottfia Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 yea man, I'm gonna be there. I think Pete is sending a team but he's gonan be busy. right man? I'm feeling pretty good about lake Weiss. We may not get to prefish but we're gonna be working to our strengths. How about yall, GSU? Quote
GSU_Fishing Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 we are sending three teams and i believe we are gonna be there thursday night...we are feeling pretty good about it and are def excited about the larger field compared to wheler...we are probably gonna fish three completely diff patterns!! everyone has their own strengths and they will be looking for water that fits those strengths!! hope to see you guys there this weekend!! come holler at us at the meeting!! Quote
Mottfia Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 We're gonna try to do the same and get out there Thursday night. I'll be looking for ya. Have you heard about who yall are paired against. Jann said they were gonna draw this weekend but no news as of yet. Quote
GSU_Fishing Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 We havent heard anything yet about pairings. Im sure Jann will do something like he did at wheeler...he did the drawings at the meeting but kept getting them mixed up with the second day pairs...which was pretty funny...It doesnt really matter who we fish against its all gonna come down to finding the quality fish and changing with the conditions!! Quote
Peter E. Posted April 15, 2008 Author Posted April 15, 2008 I am glad to see that everything is going well for ya'll South is having a hell of a time, We will have trouble sending two boats. Our members have all manner of obligations with work and school. Hopefully we can get some boys on the water. Wish us luck. Quote
GSU_Fishing Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Peter I hear ya on that one...actually some of our profs our excusing us from class for friday...they said it was fine and i just had to type up a very short and to the point letter explaining what will be doing that needed an excuse. As for the work...sadly enough theres only so much you can do about that!! I do hope to see yall there though! Quote
Peter E. Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 South has had to bow out. Ya'll get em! Quote
Mottfia Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Pete you missed a good one. Tough conditions dominated out there. You'd never believe who Troy was against GSU of all teams. lol I expect to see you at the next tournament at Wilson so start getting ready for that. Cobb it was great to meet you and your team and it was a pleasure to compete against yall. Yall have a good team, which out a doubt. I saw something about yall are putting on an invitational at some time. Can we get some information about that? Quote
GSU_Fishing Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Pete dont believe anyhing ole Mottfia says!! haha you didnt miss much fishin!! Gah was it tough out there or what?? Justin, it was a pleasure fishing against yall...and congrats again on the victory... We are tryin to put on an invitational sometime soon...we were thinkin about sometime is July but after talking with the guys there is no way to have it all ready by then...we are looking at moving it to September or October...We will keep yall updated... I dont believe we are gonna make it to Wilson. I know Jay is gonna go for that meeting that Jann was talking about but im not sure if we are gonna have the funding to get out there this time... Yall take it easy, Kyle Quote
NOVAbasskid Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 did you guys find any beds down there? i talked to some Georgia bulldog boys who said they were fishing beds on Friday, but i never saw one bed all weekend. i figured since one of the fish i caught on Friday had a really red tail maybe most of them were in post spawn already? that was definitely tougher fishing than i had in mind. good seeing y'all down there see some of you out Wilson if i can make it down for it. tight lines -mike (vt fishing team) any you guys pull some striper out? i thought i had a nice bass on Saturday only to pull up a striper. Quote
Peter E. Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Well Kyle, Dale (Justin) knows me and he knows that I love tough conditions. Either way I hate that I missed the tournament. I am having trouble getting help from club members in getting things done with me. It is still a one man show running things down here. Hopefully that will change soon enough. We'll be up at the next one though. I know that for sure. And as for your invitational, looking forward to it. Looking forward to fishing with ya'll soon enough. Quote
GSU_Fishing Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Mike...We found one bass on bed but he was about 8 inches...there was a female that was a nice size but we kept spookin her in that clear water headed up the little river but other than that there was nothing. I caught one saturday that was bloody and beat up from nose to tail...we caught plenty of striper though...We also caught about a 15 lb carp and our other boat caught a 40 lb cat fish on a rat L trap. Pete...I know how it feels to be the only one wanting to do anything for the club...been there done that...just keep pushing through...start a group on facebook and send it out to all your friends at your school and they may tell other people about it...thats really how we got off the ground with guys wanting to help out just as much as a you do!! good luck with it man!! let me know if I can help with anything!! Quote
Mottfia Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Mike we caught a few bass that looked like they had been cleaning a bed and we saw a few beds but never both. Its probably because we tried to focus on dirtier water. I felt like we'd have a better chance away from that gin water. One of our guys heard Jann talking about auburn was going to sight fish. Apparently they did it good enough. lol My partner caught a couple of real nice stripes at the end of our practice day. Pete I've told you before and I'll tell you again. If me you and Swindle were at the same college, things would be alot different. but you may get lucky and get the swindler down there next semester. Yall could have a tough team. We need to work on a third team up here. We don't have the experience as of yet in that third spot so we've got a ways to go to hit the top. Quote
Peter E. Posted April 28, 2008 Author Posted April 28, 2008 I know how you feel there Dale, We have two good teams and perhaps three even, but to be honest their all untested. The biggest thing would be for me to have a boat. Quote
