Has anyone fished this lake?  I am going to buy a pass and go fish this lake this week.  One guy at work claims he has caught some nice hawgs here.

Dad, how much is the pass and where do you go to purchase it?  Can you get it online?

Also when are you going this week to fish it.  It's right down the road from me if I go down Route One.  Just curious.  I heard there are some good Walleye in there too and lots of Perch.

I don't know how much the pass is but I am buying one anyways. You buy them at the entrance to the park at this lake. There are walleye, perch and bass. I am going Thursday afternoon after I get back from Mercer.

I've never fished it but a guy I used to work with pulled some nice fish from there. Let me know how it goes and how much the pass is.

I've fished it many of times, not recently though, probably haven't been there in 3 years or so... don't know about walleye but they have pike.  Never caught anything huge, it's pretty deep i think at some points and has nice drop off's.  You do need a Quantico base permit, they cost 10-12 bucks and is good for a year from date of purchase.  They rent boats there and I've never done great from the shore in my opinion you need to take a boat or rent one and go back in the coves.  I kind of forgot about this place and may have to re-visit it.  A lot of places on Quantico are hard to get to now-a-days after 9-11 they've closed a lot of entrances, i think all but 1.  You're going to have to go quite a round about way of getting there, you should research it or call otheriwse you'll more than likely run into closed gates that haven't been opened since 9-11.

I am bringing my boat and launching it Thursday afternoon.  I will report back and let you know how the fishing goes.  I plan on being out on the water for about 6 to 7 hours.  Hopefully my friend and I can find some hawgs in this lake.

It's a Quantcio Base permit so it covers any water on Quantico hunting and fishing, I'll warn you that ALL of them are hard to get to now-a-days and ALL of them come equipped with every bit of wildlife you'd encounter in VA. They're tough to fish from the banks especially in spring and summer, LOT'S of trees. If you're not going from a boat don't waste your time, IMO.

oh you'll find some hawgs, literally, not fish either.

I am going to launch when they open and I plan on spending the whole day fishing this lake.  I will report back and let all of you know how the fishing is on this lake Thursday night when I get back.

I haven't fished it for a while because the water levels were way down (5 ft ot so) due to last years drought.  You might want to call there first to see if the waters come up.  My buddy couldn't even launch his tracker without the trailer wheels droppiung off the ramp.

The pass is $10.  You can get it at the tackle shop right there at the lake.

I contacted the wildlife resource office at Quantico and they said both Lake Lunga and Smith lake water levels are ok for launching boats.  I will have to also check out Smith Lake one day as well.  It is $10 for a one year pass to all of the lakes at Quantico MCB.

Let me help you clarify it's $10 for a Quantico base permit which covers HUNTING AND FISHING ANYWHERE on the base, it's not just for fishing the lakes.

I was gonna go Tuesday on my day off but if there isn't a lot of shore access I guess not.  They don't rent boats at any of em' do they?

If not would anyone be interested in launching out of the reservoir on Tuesday with me and splitting the cost of a jon boat and gas motor.  I can fish from 6am til 4pm so we could do an all day rental.  Anyone interested?  Fountainhead is the only one renting during the week right now.  I haven't fished from boat much at this place but heard of some good spots to try out.  I know the lower rez has had better catch rates lately and a lot of the timber on the arms and stuff should be covered up from the rains so probably plenty of cover and banks to hit now.

Not trying to hijack.  Let me know though fellas.  Pm me for my cell number if your interested and don't already have it.

Jay, I am on vacation starting tomorrow and it I off until May 1st. We can launch at one of the Quantico lakes next Tuesday. They do rent jon boats at Lake Lunga, I don't know what the cost is.  Trevor, that is correct it covers both hunting and fishing.

lol, I know it's correct  :-? I've been fishing Quantico waters since my dad had to carry me through thick grass, I was advising you guys.  I wish Dalton's Pond was still easily accesible.  I bet it's awesome now.  Good luck! 8-)

Speaking of Dalton's Pond, I fished it a few times last year. It's still accessible, atleast for me or my dad (Marine Corps). Maybe it is because we got ID's and stickers but not to the general public anymore? We caught a decent number, they were all just dinks though. Its a nice little pond no doubt.

well in order to get to Dalton you have to drive all the way around the base to get there instead of the back way that is now gated off... and then you have to walk down a long dirt road to get there, at least that was the last status i knew of it.  Never heard of Buffalo.

Thanks for the info on Mercer Ron.

I have off tomorrow and plan on spending the day searching for a new PB if anyone wants to get together.

I fish Lunga on a regular basis. Can be good, can be bad. I was there last Friday afternoon for a few hours, and managed one dink bass and a pickerel. I did see a fairly large bass cruising the shallows, which tells me that the spawn is happening, or is about to. I did not graph any fish on the flats in the western arm of the lake (points two and three). There were still a lot of them in the main pool. There were a lot of fish near the submerged roadbed, point six. I think many of these where pickerel though. I caught one, and the vegetation that came up on my crank was covered with pickerel eggs. I ran out of time without going to my other favorite areas, but they are depicted on the map below for you.

The water as of Friday was still a few feet low, but rising. This weeks rains may have brought it up another foot or so. The lake fills slowly. I was able to launch my boat though.

Generally when I go to Lunga in the spring, it is to catch crappie. There is a good population in the lake. Try the fish attractors or beaver dams.

Unfortunatley, I won't be able to go out with you unless you want to try Sunday morning for a few hours.

Work is the curse of the idle class.

The map didn't turn out like I had planned. None of my annotations came through. Sorry.

I fished Lungs today, the air temp was in the 80's the water temp was 64 degrees, there was a nice breeze with a few wind gusts in the high teens. Two portions of the lake were closed due to exercises taking place on base so I could'nt check out the whole lake. The water visibility was about 3-4 feet, I am not used to seeing water this clear in NOVA. The lake level is also very low and I had to drive the 4Runner into the water pretty far back to launch. I ended up catching one dink and a nice size chain pickerel on a swim senko. It appeared to be a tough day for most people there that I talked to. I am guessing the bass were spawning or on beds in the sections of the lake that were closed. Here is the only picture I have from today.

it's quantico man, it's unpredictable...  do you know how to resize pictures ron? it's tough to get an idea of the size since you have to scroll around to see the whole thing... the only frame of reference is your hand, seems decent, those things are fun.
