While I've never fished the lake, I've been doing quite a bit of homework over the last couple of weeks. By April, the spawn should be in high gear. Get in the backs of the creeks.

But do not forget about those fish who have either already spawned or haven't spawned yet. In other words, don't neglect the grass flats at the mouths of the creeks either.  Nor the main river ledges.

If the shad are spawning (usually mid April to early May), there should be a tremendous spinnerbait bite early out on the grass ledges (mouths of the major creeks wherever you find grass beds say in 5-10 ft). The first wave of post spawn fish will be gorging shad in the low light hours.

After a couple of hours, move toward the bank and fish for ones around the spawn (senko, lizard, tube, trap).

If the water temp is above 55 , don't rule out a buzz bait . Last year I tore them up on a quarter ounce , white/chart trailer. My best was almost 6lb's. I used it all day , so did my partner . Good luck ! rwf56

Thanks for the advice so far guys, I now have a date and a ramp.  April 5 & 6, Mud Creek.  Now from what I have been told the waves are crazy.  Is this true, and if so is there a good place near Mud Creek that's not so bad.  My boat (an old Winner) hates waves and so do I.

You could fish all day in Mud Cr if the wind is bad. it's a great creek in the Spring, and the fish move shallow up river first, so they may be stacked in there.

If the wind isn't bad, you can run the river easily. bad wind is coming up or down river (N or S wind) over 12 MPH. if the wind is more W or E, you can get out of it ok.

Concerning your question about Mud Creek ramps, there is a good ramp right off highway 72. Going north towards TN. you come to a small road that veers off to the ramp. If you miss it and make it to the bridge flip around the other end of the road comes out near the bridge.

You should find a lot of post spawn fish by then as well as some still on the beds.

There are two other creeks in that general area that are worth checking out; Crow and Raccoon.

We have been fishing some lately preparing for a tournament coming up in a couple of weeks.

As we progress in our trips I plan to post some info for the group planning to come down in March.

By the way if you are planning to stay in Scottsboro area you should consider the Jameson Inn, very clean and reasonable rates.

Garbudah- great timing for Lake G. posts. I will be rolling in 4/5 and staying the week at So. Sauty Crk. I have heard we could stay in that creek all week. I have been researching and if weeds are up, it will be a good time for Rat-L-Traps, spinnerbaits, & Senko's around weed edges and running over the top of grass. Any additional info would be helpful and appreciated.

I will be fishing Big-G for the first time this upcoming Sat and Sun. I've heard the fishing has been slow though. I will be driving 9 hours to get there so I'm just hoping I do alright.

I haven't been to Lake "G" since last spring so I can't comment on the current state of fishing.

I can recommend the Bar B Que at Mudcreek Bar-B-Que.  Some good eatin'.

Guntersville has been a little skitzo lately with the fluctuations in the weather. Water temps have been increasing lately. We have found it from 51- 55 depending on where you go. The fish seem be on the verge of moving up. Kinda like sitting on go, just waiting for the flag, ie just a little more consistently warming weather.  Red traps and jerkbaits have been the deal when the brief bite is on.

Mudd Creek is north of So Sauty.Heading N on Hwy 35 (I think, it may be 72 heading towards Winchester TN.) You will cross Mudd Creek.

Last year,while fishing a wildcat tourney at Browns creek my partner and I weighed in 7 fish weighing at 39lbs9oz. We caught them by running 3/8 ounce spinnerbaits in white and chartruse over the grass,which was about 2 feet under the surface of the water.The bass would come up out of the grass and explode on the bait.

OK I had more problems on this trip than ever before. Still had a good time. Our guys we're catching them mainly in Mud Creek, or at least who won. The two of them caught 70 something pounds of fish. We had one guy catch a 6.66 pounder, scary! I caught my "2" fish on lip less crank close as possible to real looking. The guys who won we're using a C-Rig with a shorter leader and a lighter weight, and some kind of salt water bait that looked like a big minnow. Water was clear and shallower than I was ready for. We had some bad weather that screwed with the fish, but all in all everyone seamed to be catching them in the Mud creek area. I was past the bridge, the guys who won "my Uncle" we're strait across the ramp that's near Mud Creek BBQ. They found them rounding up bait fish and just killed them. Cool weird lake and hope to have some better luck next time. ;D Here is a pic of my two fish, nothing crazy just my "2" fish, ha ha ha.
