powerman970 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I have never used Duolock snaps but after a recent thread I am ordering some from BPS. I need to know what size you guys recommend for use with 12-20 lb test on crankbaits. I assume I can use a palomar knot to tie on the snap. To be more specific I generally throw Bandit 200's or Strike King series 3 cranks if that helps. Any info you might have on the strength of these snaps would be helpful. It is just something I would like to try so maybe I can spend less time tying and more time fishing. Quote
djmax22 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Also do you attach the snap directly to the crankbait or attach it too the split ring? Does it make a difference? Quote
powerman970 Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 My intentions are to connect the snap to the split ring on the bait. Is this correct? Quote

Super User Marty Posted March 14, 2008 Super User Posted March 14, 2008 My intentions are to connect the snap to the split ring on the bait. Is this correct? That's a controversial topic. Many people say it affects the action negatively. I can't see it myself, my baits still look like they have a nice wobble, etc. But regardless, I have 100% confidence using them. I've mostly used 10# mono or 15# braid and have always used the duolock size #1, which is rated for 20#. If you're using 20# line, you might want to consider size #2. Quote
Rebbasser Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 It really depends on personal preference. I just read where Boyd Duckett, 2007 Classic winner, uses one on his crankbaits. I trust my knots more than a snap, but it makes sense. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted March 15, 2008 Super User Posted March 15, 2008 I use size 2 and 3 mostly. I do use them on a lot of my cranks and seems to give some of them more action. I love using them on jerkbaits too. I use them not to shortcut retying all the time, but just to give some cranks more action. I still retie often even when using them. Never had issues with them. Jo Jo Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 i use berkley cross lock snaps if i can find them, they seem to hold a little better for me. as far as size goes, i use 3 and 4. duolock snaps same size. have used them on crankbaits for a few years and they have given my baits more action. i use the bandits in everything from the footloose to the 400 series(when i can find them) and dd22 from norman. and everything in between for that matter. never used them on jerkbaits yet, still tying loop knot on the those. mite have to give them a try this year. HesterIsGod Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 snaps are also supposed to increase vibration in lures with rattles. Quote
powerman970 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Thanks guys. Sorry I was out for the weekend so this is the first chance I have had to check the forum. FYI 2 big gobblers met their demise this weekend and I also found time to fish. Wore them out on a finesse worm and a frog. Not the turkey......The fish. ;D Quote
