Tpayneful Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I am going to Stick Marsh in the middle of March and I am trying to bone up on the lake as much as possible and I found this youtube video link of Avid and Keithscatch: I have read a lot about navigation hazzards in Stick Marsh / Farm 13 but I did notice that Keithscatch did get on plane in the video. So far I only know of two lake maps. One is sold locally at the Stick Marsh Bait shop and the other is on jimporter.com. Could someone add a yellow line to the map below, how would you navigate from the ramp (dashed line for slow and solid for on plane) to all 4 corners of the lake? I am concidering going with George Welcome to learn about the lake but I don't know if I will have the extra cash to use one of his guides. We are spending the previous week at Disney and the price of airfare, house rental and Disney tickets is going to tax my wallet Thank you to anyone that can help! Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 2, 2008 Super User Posted February 2, 2008 Great video. Finally got to see the Stick Marsh. And Avid!!!! Quote
George Welcome Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Stick Marsh Map: http://www.imaginationbassin.com/StickMarshAerial.htm Call Me for navigational info. Quote
Tpayneful Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Thank you George! That map is exactly what I was looking for! I was talking to a friend that has been there once and he mention cutting across the lake at a 45 degree angle. Now I understand. You are the best! I am going to do my taxes this week and see if any extra money pops up. I will give you a call this week George. Quote
surfer Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I have been there once. I still have nightmares about all the stumps. Good for bass, bad for boats. Quote
JayW Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 It's a paradise down there. I've been by it, but never fished it directly. I have fished that little pit next to... Anyone know what it's called??? Here it is... This place look familiar to anyone? I haven't been down there in several years. We used to catch 30-50 Bass per trip out there! Quote
Guest Steve_P. Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Now that's funny right there!!! That blue sign in the background behind your boat with a MOTOR, says no MOTORized boats allowed. I have done good there fishing from the bank although it is layed out a little different than what you remember if it's been years since you were there. They've made some changes AND they still don't allow MOTORS!! ;D Quote
JayW Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Yeah, that's actually a friends old boat. Back then... he seemed to think that it meant "no running the motor" and not actually no motors allowed. The last time we went (at least 6-7 yrs ago) there was a guy riding around out there with a 20ft Gambler / Merc 225. Some old man was loading up his jon boat and said he got a ticket out there for just having a trolling motor one time! I haven't been back because all I have right now is a 20 footer. Do you know if it's true that you're not even supposed to run a trolling motor? I remember we caught 50+ Bass the first time we went out there between the 2 of us. Quote
GatorBK Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Dont quote me on this but I beleive you can run just a trolling motor in some no motor zones Quote
Guest avid Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 "No motorized boats" means just what it says. Sure some CO's might let you slide, but then again.......... Quote
George Welcome Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Trolling motor: operative word "motor" No "motor" means exactly that. If fish and game is out there you will get a ticket - $89.00 is the last number I heard for that infraction. It's all a bit stupid, but that's the way it is. That area is now an integral part of Kenansville as a drain pipe has been put into the area from the lake, and the pipe is big enough to drive my Dodge 3500 through. Quote
surfer Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 This is when I officially declared all FWC officers as underpaid, deadbeat, no good for nothing, MORONS!! FWC, police, etc. aren't lawyers and haven't studied law to any great extent. They are normal people. I wouldn't give them a hard time though. They are in a position to ruin your day if they want to. JayW Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Thanks for all the info, guys! Anyone know how the fishing is there now days? I'd like to go back and give it a try. I'd love to hit Stick Marsh sometime, but I'm kinda concerned about all the stumps and all having never been there. I have a 20' flats boat, so it runs pretty shallow but I don't want to hit a stump! My buddy still has a jon boat, so I guess we could paddle out to the small lake since I now know that they consider a trolling motor a no no! :'( Quote
George Welcome Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 There have been major changes since you were there. Kenansville lake itself is too low in most places to run a boat. The small pond has more water flow due to the pipe that now connects it too the lake. I guess it's a drive out and give it a try. Quote
GatorBK Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I can find out for sure about the no motor zone .But being George is a guide he should know. Its not in my 4 inch thick book of regulations on harvesting gators. I do agree with Avid those guys are underpaid. They do try but the judicial system makes it tough on the LE officers . I am not an officer or warden just an agent the FWC pays me nothing to catch nuisance gators . I get to sell the meat and hide for my income after I pay to have it processed at a USDA approved facility ,then I have to pay self employment taxes on that. I have to furnish all my equiptmnet hooks, lines , bait, Fishing gear ,bangstick, boats, truck ,gas, I even have to buy my gator licence ,etc etc . And had to sign a waiver incase I lose an arm or leg so I am on my own. I actually loose money at times catching gators. I had to pay 125 $ just to get the FWC decals they require on my truck. I do it as a public service because I like it and its challenging they are smart critters If you dont think they are dangerous check this out Its Graphic http://www.cdnn.info/news/safety/s070917.html Sorry to get off topic I hope you do well fishing there 1sjay Quote
