Dogface Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 My son just bought a home near Falls Lake north of Raleigh. Where would I get some info on the lake and how is the fishing? Quote
ncstatered21 Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Well i can tell you w/o even looking at stuff on how it is...horrible. We're in an enormous drought and Falls has been hit the hardest. Quote
Dogface Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 He told me the drought was bad but how is the fishing when water is at normal levels? Besides LM are there SM or Walleye in the lake? Thanks Quote
Big T Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I have never fished Falls Lake and I may be wrong but I do not think that there are any Smallies or Walleyes in that lake. I do not think that Walleys are native to NC. There may be a few in some of the mountain lakes in the Western NC lakes. I do think if memory serves me right that I read in the NC Sportsman magazine that there are Stripers there. You really need to call down there to find out if the boat ramps are even open. The Raleigh- Durham resevoirs are really low and hurting for water. The drought has been so bad thi year that we were catching saltwater fish in Wilmington around the Battleship across from Downtown. The salinity line had drifted that far north from a lak of rain to wash it back out in the ocean. Sorry for such a long post Just a thought. Hope this helps. TS Quote
Dogface Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Sorry for such a long post Just a thought. Hope this helps.TS Thank you for the long post. That is what I wanted to know. I hope to fish Falls in this spring or summer and I wanted to get an idea what the lake was like. Quote
bassrogue Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Sorry I didn't see this thread until today. Here is my Triangle lake report. I live about 10-15 min from Falls and about 15-20 min from Jordan The lake levels around here are bad, Falls Lake last I heard was -9 to -10 ft. No bass bite( at least for me) and a slow crappie bite. I haven't been to Falls, since before Christmas so there might be others that have figured it out. Jordan Lake is a little better but not great(around -4 to -6 ft)But fishing there is ok. We had a great winter Crappie bite(still a good bite now) and bass are slow but findable. I haven't been in a few weeks. But last time I was out there I found the bass suspending over deep humps in main lake water near creek channels. At normal levels the fishing is great(don't know how long it will be before it returns to normal). Sorry no Walleyes or Smallies. I think there are only 2 lakes in NC that have those species.( James and Fontana, not 100% sure on that) Main species in Falls and Jordan are LM bass, Strippers, and Crappie. I think as of right now there is only one boat ramp open at Falls. Don't know of any closings at Jordan. But there are some ramps where you will find the end. Hope my $.02 helps BR Quote
bassrogue Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Here is the NC State Parks Site. It might have some useful info for you. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/main.php Just use the "Find a Park" search for each lake. BR Quote
