Hey, BP48,

I have taken the reels off the rods and stored everything off the boat and into the garage.

May go out when we get a pretty day later in the month.

Between work and football and "honey do's" around the house I have not been fishing since November.

Did T9 catch those big bass in the pond behind his house or in a challenging location like the river or lake?  I could always go up to Congressional Country Club and catch 6+ pounders with ease.

See you all at the Richmond Fishing Expo.  I will be wearing my LSU sweat shirt with nothing insulting to any other football team or boasting about a BCS title.  It's our second you know.  First school to win two BCS titles.  Just a reminder. ;D

can you get old tide info? For the month of december? and wow, I didn't know the tides changed so much each day...maybe it has nothing to do with the tides but something like the stripers are drawn to the lights at night? I have no clue, lol

Simon,

Unfortunately the site does not allow you to check prior months, it does however allow you to look at previous days in the current month.

Just got back from yorktown, pretty fun night...all in all I hooked up 4 stripers again from 2-4lbs nothing big but still fun! They hit these 4in swimbaits hard =D  Lost about 3, my friend who came with me landed 1 and lost a bunch more (he still hasn't gotten the hang of setting the hook).

pics to come!

Where at Yorktown?  Are you fishing under the foot of the bridge?

Well the crankbait and jig bite on the Pamunkey is still hot!

Went out for a couple hours yesterday and caught 9 keepers and a pile of short fish on my homemade finesse jigs and a Bandit 100 series.

Super, BP48.

You did good.

Looking forward to seeing you and your dad at the Expo next weekend.

We can make plans for a Pamunkey tournament this summer, featuring T9 and his Triton.

Sounds like a plan to me ;)

I'll have to give you a few of the jigs I've been tying, the fish on the Pamunkey just can't resist em, and I have yet to really try them anywhere else.

The bass are deep and usually start moving towards shore when the water temperature hits 45 to 47 degrees.

Have you checked the water's temperature to see what it is?

Also, can you find any deep holes along the bank where they may be holding?

Have you thrown a brown shaded jig fished slow back to the shore?

Tried any tubes or grubs just to see if they would produced - fished really slow back to you?  These are different presentations that may produce a strike.

Remember, if the water is cold they are not going to move too far for a meal, but they will move to eat when they get hungry.

Also, have you checked the tides?  A falling tide is the best to fish on rivers so check your tide charts to see when there is a falling tide in the area where you fish.

And remember to fish slow. Like cast and wait 60 seconds; move bait a few inches by moving rod tip and let it sit for another 60 seconds. Then do it again, letting it sit from 45 to 60 seconds.  Then go nuts and get placed in Central State Mental Hospital, especially if you are Type A like me. ;D

Let us know if your luck changes.

I caught one 2lb bass in a pond on January 11th.  I was using a Baby Brush hog in Watermellon Candy color with a black 1/8oz bullet weight.  I pulled it over a downed tree in 3' of water.  When I tugged it over the branch, the one eyed fish hit it on the fall.  That was what I needed to complete a goal of catching a fish every month for a year.

I just got in from freezin' em off. Spent the last 5 hours dropshotting with my new set up. A BPS Pro lite finesse 7ft medium action matched with a Pflueger Supreme MG, spooled with 6lbs Sensation. While doodling with a hand warmer I almost had my rod ripped from my hands, fought the fish for about 15 seconds before it came unbuttoned. Brutal is the word that comes to mind. No other fish landed or even hooked for that matter.

Ouch, that is rough flippin4it. I bet it was a good fish too, even with the lighter gear. These winter fish don't usually fight too long, but the good ones do. It's only 23 degrees out, but I still wish I was out fishing!I'm goin tomorrow hopefully.

Matt, don't go off and get better at fishing. You'll be winning those Fountianhead tournies in no time and pocketing my money. I wish I had got serious about fish when I was young like you...

Posted

Haha I'm so excited for the tournys to start! They just updated the website yesterday but no schedule yet. They did make a rule change, you are allowed to weigh in 7 fish now. I can't wait for these things to start. Winning is always a possibility but I know of a few people that have been fishing those for a long time and haven't gotten a first place yet. It'd be pretty sweet though for 2 young guns to beat guys that have been fishin that place for 30+ years.

I found that I crack under pressure, I don't stick with a bait or color long enough. It seems to get worse as the tourny wears on. This year will be more of a finesse presentation, my left elbow is killin me. My bread and butter pitchin' is out the window.  I set up a apointment to get it checked by a sports medicine M.D. I hope it'll be ready to go.

My Brother and I never really have the problem of sticking with the bait or color, but switching when the time is right. I mean we are always switching rods but the baits themselves do not change....Which is our problem. We have definetly gotten better since our 1st tournament and are starting to "fish the moment" a little more, I really think we will do better this year.

I hope everything is okay with your elbow, I never really thought about how having a bad elbow could really mess up your pitchin' but now that I do that SUCKS. I'll have to meet you this year for sure.

You have seen me before, i'm one you'd remember. We rode next to each other during a tourny last summer. I'll fish a couple this year.

Posted

Yeah I was pretty sure that I had seen you. I really can't wait till these things start...Can you even get on the reservoir now?Anyone know? I saw a report from about 2 weeks ago and the guy said he launched from Lake ridge, I don't even think it's open....
