Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 15, 2008 Super User Posted March 15, 2008 I've posted this once before, but this looks like the proper place to reiterate it. After a tackle binge one night at BPS, I was checking my receipt. The d**n thing was longer than my inseam, literally. It spilled onto the floor quite a bit as well. That's a lot of lures. Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Yakfish Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 EVER GO A LITTLE OVERBOARD BUYING LURES??? No. ;D Quote
Bass XL Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I was thinking about buying some Japanese lures recently A small order like this one ? Hey Raul, how do you like that Anthrax? Quote
mjhutch1116 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Does this count? I went to bps right after christmas and dropped around 300. Then just a month ago or so I went back to bps and dropped another 400 already making a list for the next time I go to bps. My wife tells me I need mental help, and maybe I do. But I am having fun putting all of the stuff away and really looking forward to the upcomming bass season. Matt Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Well Del, im pretty much in the same situation as you, I have a ton of soft plastics (too much to carry around), and im also a shore fisherman, what I do to solve the problem you described is this. First I use a vest, in the vest I will bring certain categories of softplastics for that day. I will bring a section of baits I have great confidence in, such as senkos, gycb kut-tails, fat ikas, powerworms, basiclly baits I can rely on if needed. 2nd I'll bring baits relating to the conditions of the lake/cover, for example if there is alot of weeds on the lake, I'll bring a pack or 2 of frogs, if there is some stickpiles, I'll bring some creatures like Gycb kreature, or baby brush hogs. 3rd I'll bring baits I just feel like fishing because I simply want to. If im in the mood to fish a straight tail worm, I'll bring a few packs of them, if I'm in the mood to fish a lizard I'll bring a pack or 2 of them. And I'll basiclly pack the vest with other things until theres no more room. I also keep a plano in the back of my vest, basiclly of random hardlures/hollow frogs that I feel I'll need or want to use. I have my hardbaits/hollow frogs organized in their own plano while not used, but I will take all the lures I think I'll need/feel like fishing, from each plano and put it into a single plano, this way I dont have to lug around 5 planos in a tacklebag. When im serious bass fishing (which usually starts in about May), I will keep all my tackle in the back of my car, so If I need something I can just walk back to my car. But I usually have everything I need with me when I use the system just stated. By the way, I highly recommend a vest over a tacklebag, a tacklebag imo gets to be a pain in the *** to carry around, but I guess you can say the same about wearing the vest, I don't know I prefer it . BASS fisherman Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 In my case, that's a really stupid question. A better question would be- Do I ever NOT go overboard with lures? Last month there was a boat show in the area that I had to check out. When I walked in I figured I would get maybe 10-15 lures tops!! I spent close to $400.00 bucks on lures. Mostly Rapalas and Lucky craft. I should be stocked up atleast for a month or two. When I am beating the bank, I also have about a 60lb tackle bag, BUT I only take it to tournaments. I have another few small tackle bags that I use depending on where I am going to fish. Walmart has a small Okechobee bag with 2 boxes that is a good size to fill and not be aching after 10 minutes. That's mostly what I use. Leave your big bag at home and pick a small variety of lures you need work on. Take em out and learn em. You can also take your big bag and leave it in your vehicle and when you get to the lake, figure out based on the conditions, what you'll need to stock in your small bag. Quote
