Kissimmee fishing opportunities

I will be in Kissimmee from 1-30-08 -- 2-5-08. I was wondering if there were any public access locations for shore fishing, or small boat rentals.

You probably know, but the town of Kissimmee is actually closer to Lake Toho (west tohopekaliga) than it is to Lake Kissimmee.

Anyway, many years back before I lived in Florida, I rented a rowboat and motor at "Richardson's Fish Camp" on West Lake Toho

Thanks for the information Roger, I should have been more specific, I meant the town of Kissimmee, not necessarily Lake Kissimmee. I was wondering if there were any small lakes in the area of where I was staying. I will definately check into the places you linked.

East Lake Fish Camp on East Lake Toho is in Kissimmee: Boat and motor: $65. per day

Fishing from shore in Central Florida is rare.  Most all our lakes are very gradual sloping allowing for thick and tall weeds from shore out to 30 or 100 ft.  Only where the shore has been cleared can you get a cast in, but the fish normally don't hang out there.  They would rather hang closer to the weeds.  Renting a boat should get you more fish.

Your hotel is half way between Disney and Lk Toho.  Toho will probably be your best bet.  Although it is bigger and more heavily fished than others lakes that are closer, most other lakes are smaller private lakes and don't have boat rentals.  Find one of the bait shops, ask the old man behind the counter what's biting, and let him sell you a lure or two.  This has always gotten me a head start on new and unfamiliar lakes.
