jjbassjj Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I've never used a lucky craft bait. I hear so much hype about them. Do you guys really think it worth the extra money. If so, what are the advantages??? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 13, 2008 Super User Posted March 13, 2008 Hmm... Design, engineering, craftmanship, high quality components and perfect performance right out of the box! Oh! I almost forgot to mention, they catch fish, too! 8-) Quote
TournyFish001 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 their jerkbaits are second to none- plus if you are smart about it the chances of losing that jerkbait are slim Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted March 13, 2008 Super User Posted March 13, 2008 I know this is a bass fishing forum, but I did really well with a Lucky Craft 100DD Pointer last year for pike. The walleye pattern was my best producer. Give them a shot jjbassjj. If you're looking at the cranks, the Rick Clunn cranks are a great placed to start. Quote
MaxDal Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Yop good baits ! But don't buy just any LC if this is your first try. They have top-producers like any other brands that should help you gain confidence in the brand. But they also have bait that are more situation-specialized (don't know how to say that in proper english, sorry) For instance, I'm a huge fan of the Splash-tail but I wouldn't advise it as a first purchase, since it's rather a specialised bait, which use is time-limited. Go with either : - Pointer 78 or 100 in Suspending (for jerkbaits) - Rick Clunn Cranksbait - Sammy or Gunnish (for topwater) I hope it helps ! Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Lucky crafts are the best baits on the market, period. Literally if you know how to throw a jerkbait these baits will catch atleast twice as many fish as any other jerkbait on the market Quote
djmax22 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Yeap. They are worth it. There are 3 models that I use LC Pointer 100. By far the best jerkbait I have used RC Crankbaits. Great Cranks Sammy. Awesome topwater lure. These models are the only lucky crafts that I buy. Quote
fathom Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 pointers rc's flat mini's imo, cream of the crop. Quote
Stringjam Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Yes - pick up some of the models suggested above and get to know them. Quote
Del from philly Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 how do they line up with x-raps? is their no comparison? Is that even the same type of lure....I dont use hardbody lures, i just buy them..... Quote

Literally if you know how to throw a jerkbait these baits will catch atleast twice as many fish as any other jerkbait on the market I disagree. Now, regarding LC jerkbaits... I throw LC's 75% of the time, but there are times when bass prefer an X-Rap or a husky jerk, and I seriously doubt there's any time a LC will catch twice as many fish as an X-Rap, for example. There may be times when a LC will catch a few more fish, or times when a LC will catch a big finnicky fish that won't strike an X-Rap, but there's not that big of a difference between the two jerkbaits. The LC jerkbaits are a little more subtle than an X-Rap, and they have a nice rolling motion on pauses. Personally, I fish two lakes where I have more success with X-Raps than LC's. That said, the quality of LC baits is top-notch, and IMO, worth the price. You have to tune them very infrequently and they're pretty durable. I have a couple other LC baits, some cranks, rattlers, and topwaters (love the Sammies), and all of them are top-notch. Also, there are other companies that manufacture similarly high-end jerkbaits and other baits that I haven't tried. Imakatsu, Mega Bass, and others. These are even more expensive than LC's, and at least as high-quality. Quote

detroit1 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I think L/C baits look beautiful, and if i owned some i probabally wouldn't use them, they would go in a display case. I catch too many pike and would be concerned about bite-offs. But 2 to 3 times the cost of most cranks? What makes it so expensive? The best trebles are what-$1 apiece, high quality split rings-.45 for 3, paint-.30,add .20 of plastic and there you go- a $3 crank. I've used over 300 cranks in my life and i don't think 10 of them didn't run right out of the package. There were only 2 that i couldn't fix. Not bad. These lures did what they were supposed to according to their design (dive to 8',suspend, or whatever). So really, the cost is in the mold. But, even though i won't buy them, i hold no hard feelings towards anyone that does. Unless other companies start raising their price for no other reason than "look what l/c gets for theirs". I personally think they are ripping you off, but can a willing person get ripped off? :-/ Quote

I personally think they are ripping you off, but can a willing person get ripped off? :-/ I couldn't disagree more! I fish LC's because they run true every time and are priced semi-reasonably when compared to other high-end cranks. If I am fishing shallow cranks then I would agree that 90% run true out-of-the-box but bargain deep and mid divers very rarely run true without extensive tuning and many cannot be tuned correctly no matter what. LC cranks catch more fish than bargain cranks without a doubt. Whether or not you are better off buying three bargain baits instead of one LC and hoping that you can tune one or two to perfection is your call. BTW I do not consider Rapalas to be bargain cranks, I find that they are very comparable to LCs in terms of %-that-run-true-out-of-the-box I just don't think that their action is quite up to par with the LCs. Super User FishTank Posted March 15, 2008 Super User Posted March 15, 2008 They are for the most part worth the money. They are the only lure that I have used that comes perfect out of the package. Their Pointers are probably the best of the bunch but I also like the Sammy and the Flat Mini's. I have used all sorts of cranks and for some reason I use the LC more but I lose more of the other brands at least 3 to 1. For instance I love to fish a Silver Rapala DT-4, I lost 5 of these last year on snags as opposed to my favorite LC Flat Mini MR in Chartreuse Shad I have had for 3 years and it gets fished almost every time I'm out. My only guess is that this bait runs so different that it is actually better at avoiding or bouncing off structure. Quote
djmax22 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I firmly believe that a Lucky Craft Pointer will out fish an X-rap early in the season when the water temp is in the upper 30's. No doubt in my mind. The Pointer will suspend and roll side to side better than the X-rap. This is critical when sometimes you are waiting over a minute before you twitch the lure. However, there are times later in the prespawn period that I perfer the X-rap slashing ability. In the summer time I love the X-rap when bass are balling up the shad. Running the X-rap throough them is a blast. Two weeks ago I tried out a few Megabass (the water temp was 38 on lake of the ozarks). Although the finish on these lures are amazing I still feel the pointer is a better suspending lure. I had to use suspension dots to keep the Megabass down. I will say one thing about the Megabass lures, the hooks are the sharpest hooks I have ever used. If a fish breathes on the the bait it might get hooked. Quote
