JCrzy4Bass Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Hey guys. This is for all you Va guys who are going to be calling it quits here in a couple weeks (as far as fishing). Outside of hunting this offseason, what do you guys anticipate doing during the next 3-4 months before the spawn comes up? I did a lot of thinking and made some decisions. I decided I'm going to dedicate this time to picking my guitar back up and jamming out whenever time permits. Maybe try and write some of my own material and learn some new songs or some harder stuff I haven't had the skill to play yet. I get my new apartment in January so I will finally be able to move my favorite amp from my parents and into my new place (50 watt Marshall Stack) and really rock out. It says 50, but I can pump out the same noise as a 100 watt Crate or Behringer. I'm thinking I may try and grab a drummer, bass, and vocalist and do a cover project for three or four months playing at some local bars on Friday nights or something. I've been rocking out to Three Days Grace lately and only need one guitarist for it (could do a three piece but I don't sing... actually... I CAN'T sing). If anyone wants to hook up and jam I play primarily Alternative/Hard rock and know bits and pieces and full songs by bands such as Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, Creed (only because Mark Tremonti is a beast guitarist), Guns N' Roses, Foo Fighters, Weezer, RHCP, ACDC, etc. Nothing serious, if it turns out we end up writing our own stuff and actually getting relatively good and playing shows every now and then down the road thats cool but I don't want an official band or anything cause I won't have the time come Spring. Just something fun. Pm me if your in Nova, have practice space and would like to jam sometime. If you want an idea of the bands I used to be a part of you can check out the following links, these were the last two. Latter Day Parade: www.purevolume.com/latterdayparade (Best song: "Come to") Five Days from December: www.myspace.com/5daysfromdecember (Best Song: "The Number One Way") Not for the weak at heart (the singer... actually pretty much screams the whole time, except in the first band). So what else are you guys planning on doing this offseason??? Oh yea... you know I'm going to buy about a million books on bass (probably the in fishermen series volumes... we'll see). Quote
Hung up Paul Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 My other primary hobby is vintage BMX bicycle collecting and restoration. I've been sitting on a few projects for a while. I need to get 3 bikes done for my nephews to ride next year. That my two girls and the new baby boy will keep me busy this winter. Quote

SimonSays Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I feel your pain J, last year I played alot of poker, there's a bunch of free poker tournaments that are based off a point system in Va, so I ended up going to those. This winter I was thinking about rod/tackle making possibly, if my budget can support it =D Quote
LakeAnnaBasser Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 snowboarding! I second that. I snowboard every weekend and when the season is over fishing will be back in action. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 14, 2007 Super User Posted November 14, 2007 After deer season ends, I start fishing again. There is always some non-frozen water somewhere-like the Anna hot side and a N.C. power plant lake-Hyco. I hasn't been cold enough in the recent winters to freeze many lakes and rivers. Quote
basspro48 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 There is no offseason for me, even during hunting season (gun season opens saturday!!!! ) I hunt on weekdays and fish on the weekends. This works out perfect for me because I get to hunt all week long and then I get to go catch loads of smallmouth during the best time of year to catch em in the tidal rivers 8-) Quote
AnglerNFuego Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I'm a gamer, so i'm in the process of upgrading my rig for the next generation DX10 games. Gotta say between fishing and gaming it can be very expensive. Gotta love it! Quote

I have a Hutch Trick Star in my dad's storage building from WAY BACK! Oh and back on topic....the baitmonkey and I usually hang out a whole lot during the offseason. Quote
Hung up Paul Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Let me know if you're interested in selling that trick star. That's one bike I've never owned. I've got about 8 complete bikes in my garage, a few more in storage and various framesets and boxes of parts. Here's a line up of trick stars from this years vintage BMX gathering at Rockford, IL: Quote
Guest btlva Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I'll be fishing all winter. Won't do alot of bass fishing but sometimes other species are just as fun! tight lines Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 Hey Simon we should organize some texas hold em games when your around on weekends or break. My friend Jimmy has his own bar set up in his apt and we have a poker table that seats 8 there and play quite a bit. Would be fun. If anyone is interested in some friendly non cash, or even the occassional cash game chime in. I'll get you info on our next game and we can hook up. Or maybe we can arrange a bassresource get together poker game. Yea Simon I used to actually play at Hard Times Cafe and Brittanys Bar and Grill. Made the final table probably about 5-6 times in the year and a half I played but the best I ever finished was 2nd going heads up against a massive chip leader. My points were good enough for regionals that year (2 years ago) but I did not attend because of other obligations. I love me some hold em'. Bt, what do you fish for here in the offseason? I'm assuming it's on the rappahannock? Andy, what systems do you game on? Or are you one of "those" gamers that does the online play on the pc (wow, diablo, everquest, etc)? I am a avid sports gamer and I'm into anything football, baseball, hockey, or fishing related. I also enjoy the occassional rpg, my favorite is corny old morrowind on x-box. I haven't got oblivion yet cause I know if I do I'll be back to having no life. Not that I have one now anyway haha. Quote
Guest btlva Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 No Rapp in the winter for me. From Thanksgiving-late February I fish for crappie, yellow perch, and bluegill in some of our local lakes. Occasionally nice bass and walleye get caught too. Tons of fun and lots of action, 50 fish+ days are not unusual. Trout fishing is a good option sometimes, but I like fishing for panfish better. I will also be doing at least one wreck fishing trip out in the ocean this winter. Can't wait! Quote
SimonSays Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I'm guilty of people one of "those" gamers (WoW) :-X now that it's gotten cold...and I can't seem to find those bar games in richmond... Quote
John J. Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 1.) Be playing my "Rapala Pro Fishing" for x-box :'( 2.) On decent days I may head out to the lake 3.) Pour some more of my plastic worms (I already got my order in from Barlow's, I got more plastic and some new colors ) 4.) Learn different strategies that I can apply to next year (Deep cover/structure) that's on my 2008 fishing goals. 5.) Probably watch tv fishing shows and be taunted... :'( :'( 6.) Post on BR. 7.) And search for a new (better) boat, considering all I have is a 12' V hull 1950 Alumacraft with no trailer and a 27# thrust trolling motor. (I would like at least a 14' jon boat, decked out with compartments and a trailer with a bow mounted 40# at least trolling motor and possibly a 9.9 hp engine...) And that's going to be my winter... johnkook73 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Talking about gaming, I just picked up Call of Duty 4 for the PC. Anyone that likes first person shooters this game kicks A%%! Quote

I'm also a FPS gamer, I just picked up Crysis but waiting for my upgraded parts to come in. I thought about getting COD 4 but I think the wife might get it for me for xmas. Jay, I hope this answers your question. I also have Wii and enjoy playing "Rapala Pro Fishing" with my kids. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted November 16, 2007 Super User Posted November 16, 2007 No kidding? I have a Hutch Trick Star in my dad's storage building from WAY BACK! No offense, but I just can't see you on a bike... ;D Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 16, 2007 Super User Posted November 16, 2007 I want to get CoD 4 but I don't think my PC can handle it.. :'( Looks amazing though. Might go halves with my roommate for the XBOX version.. Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Rapala Pro Fishing is about the best you can get for X-Box. I play it all the time. I like the King Salmon tourneys because of the fights. But I can't turn down those Oke bass or Sam Rayburn bass either. Good times. My favorite lures are the original rapalas and husky jerks in that game. Quote

I take it you mean below the fall line? I usually use the cold months to get caught up on all the little tasks that pile up during the fishing season--but if there are smallmouth to be had I can put those off. Again ;D Quote
JVM Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I may try to do some winter fishing, the big thing will be helping my buddy put a deck on his Jon Boat. I will post pics as we go through the process. Hydrilla Gorilla watchout! Quote
