Florida Help...

Im gonna be making a trip with my gf and her family next month to Florida.  They have a place in Fort Myers.  Rite in their plan are 3 awsome looking ponds.  I've never fished anything down south before so i was just wondering what I should be fishing. I was just thinking 5 in. senkos, cranks and spinner baits.  Oh yea, and my girl friends worried about me getting eaten by a gator but I don't ever remember hearing of anyone getting eaten and even so I think it would be worth it . So I was just wondering if i really had to worry or not.  Thanks in advance for any help!

The gators are just for show,they aint nothin too worry about.They are everywhere though,and are pretty annoying when trying to topwater fish at times,especially a buzz frog ,THEY LOVE THEM.

You cant go wrong with senkos and trick worms and the old faithful texas rig ribbon tail (YUM reccomended).Depending on depth or cover,you will need some shallow cranks,and of course spinnerbaits.For ponds 1/8 spinners work especially well.If the water is dark or tannic ,like alot of water around here,should go with bright cranks,bright spinners,and dark plastics black/blue,junebug,red shad.If slightly clear water is fished then watermelon/red and green pumpkinplastics,naturally.1/4 or less jigs are a bonus too in black and blue of course,and green pumpkin if clearer water.

Yes,even in december it is quite warm here as compared to up north.But dont let that fool you into thinking the fishing will be easier.Just because there isnt a foot of snow on the ground doesnt mean the fish will be biting.In the Winter if we have continous cold fronts,night temps in the forties or less.These fish will turn off real quick.Blubird skies and high pressure are the bane of my existence around here.The lazy bass in FL sulk at the slightest change in weather,in my experience.So if cold is the case.I mean day temps in sixties,a very slooowww presentation will be required.Penetrate the heaviest cover available or practice dead sticking.If a front is coming soon though the bite prior can be extrordinary.

I drive to a few ponds in the Fort Myers area and Port Charlotte.Theres just a ton of them around here.A Pond Prowlers Paradise.
