I live on one of the residential canals off the Apopka Beuclair canal, for those of you who know/have fished this area, I am sure you will agree that they are very productive Bass/Panfish waters. However, the canals have been slowly filled in with sediment from Lake Apopka to the point that I haven't seen a boat go through since around Feb. of this year. After a great deal of effort by a number of concerned anglers, homeowners, etc. people are finally taking notice of the condition of the canals. Here is a newly formed website that illustrates the improvements that are in process/planned for the A-B canal system.

I fished in Beauclair and Dora on Saturday.  I tried to get into the canal but could not find deep water on the south side of Beauclair.  The entire area was ringed with shallow water bouys.  How do I get to the canal?

You have to manuever around the buoys and stay on plane when entering the A/B canal. The buoys are marking the sediment deposits, you shoud be fine if you stay on plane.

Don't even attempt going down the first residential canal, it is impassable for the first 200 yards or so.

How deep is the main canal?   Where do you fish in the canal?  I want to try again this weekend.

Thanks

I don't know how deep the canal is currently, as I haven't been able to get through the silt to get to it in nearly a year. I have heard Bass boats running in the main canal on weekends though.

Well, how'd you do?

I saw someone iwth an 18' or 19' fish and ski trolling down the canal Sunday. Looked like they were having a hard time....

I stayed in LLH and Eustis on friday riding around charting the bottom.  Spent a little time in Haines Creek without much success.   The ABA national championship was out of Venetian this week with 150 boats.  The fish were pretty hammered by friday.  I fish a tourney this weekend so we will see.

I launched at 6:30am at Hickory point. There was only one other boat there. I broke a shift cable so wasn't able to fish much; we tried the general area around the ramp but didn't pick up anything.

I came by Hickory Point about 630 fri.  I saw someone putting in, maybe it was you.  Tough luck on the cable.

I'm going to fish the ABA Harris tourneys.   They start this weekend so if you have any tips, I sure could use them.  I'm not that familiar with fall/winter on this chain.  I only started fishing seriously in March.
