rondef Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Has anyone on this forum fished Shelby Farms Park? If so what have you caught? I plans on going there in the spring when I go visit my daughter. It looks like there are quite a few ponds and a lake to fish. Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 22, 2007 Super User Posted October 22, 2007 I have fished a couple of ponds there and have never had a bite or seen a fish of any kind. Quote
rondef Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Where do you recommend near Memphis, TN? I will be going there in the spring and want to start researching so I can catch some LMBs. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 22, 2007 Super User Posted October 22, 2007 I have a couple of ponds to show you and then you can come back and fish them whenever you like on your own. Quote
rondef Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Roadwarrior, Thanks I would really like that. I am thinkiing that I will be in Memphis around the March April time frame to visit with my daughter. She works at St Jude Childrens Research Hospital in one of the research labs (infectious diseases) as a research technician. I will PM you when the time gets close. Once again thanks for the invite. MemphisFisherman Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Shelby Farms....sucks...no wait, SUCKS. They stock the lakes with anything and everything and are just horribly managed. In my experience the lakes only produce about a half million 4 inch crappie per trip. Theres a few little lakes around town if your just a bank fisherman. One that I used to fish alot before I got a boat is at the corner of Whitten and Stage (hwy 64) before they turned it into a park. Quote
bassattack1990 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Yall must be bad fishermen then......cause when i go to shelby farms i always get some thing!!!! wether it be a lil pad......a stick.....i did snag a gold fish in there tho =) theres alote of lil ponds around memphis to fish that have alote of nice fish in them! id like to know if road warrior knows any of the ones i dont know so i can try em out! =) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 2, 2007 Super User Posted November 2, 2007 As long as you release MY pet fish, you can fish MY not so private pond! Neshoba Park, Germantown, just east of the intersection of Germantown Pkwy & Wolf River (behind the Chick-fil-A). Quote
MBarrons Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I don't know what you have in mind, but you might try catch-em lake on the Agricenter Farm off Walnut Grove. It is a pay lake (pond by size), but they keep it stocked with mature fish. I have not been there myself, but I have seen pictures and was around when they built it a few years ago. Good luck. Quote
bassattack1990 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 iv fished both of those!!!!!! i caught a 4+ at the ag center pond......that pond is so so so so so small but theres a few nice fish in there! and iv never caught anything behind the chicka fila accept small fish......what do you use over there? i think i might be using to big of baits at thses small ponds.......but when i hook a fish or miss one it usally is a nicer fish.......has anyone fished down the road from shelby farms across the brige at the hospital>? iv caught some nice fish in both of those ponds. Super User roadwarrior Posted November 5, 2007 Super User Posted November 5, 2007 Bait too big? I've had some luck fishing a Double-Wide Beaver on a 1/2 oz Micro Munch Tackle jig. We're talkin' size! I generally fish big baits. Quote

PeteM Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I agree with Roadwarrior. I have been fishing Beaver Lake for 2 months. Not one bite , NOTHING. The turtles are out of control stealing live bait. It's a total waste of time. I have since stopped going there. I am looking for a good lake or river I can fish safely. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance. Pete M Quote
Hunter W Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Pete, have you had any luck? I just moved to Memphis and I’m looking to bass fish off the bank. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Quote
