nhbassin Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Me and clr9933 went out on the Merrimack this afternoon and I ended up with a 3 pound smallmouth on a sexy swimmer swimbait by Strike King. I feel like it is getting a little bit tougher to get solid fish out of there now because they have seen literally thousands of lures in the past 2 months. I can't wait for the ponds and lakes to warm up so I can fish where the bass haven't been getting hit in the head with lures all winter! Quote
jaystraw Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 I got out on Powdermill Pond today in the Nitro. No luck, but it was nice to be out there in the warm sun tossing a line. Water tmp was between 41-45,and there was still a decent amouut of ice, so I was not expecting a lot of action. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 10, 2011 Super User Posted April 10, 2011 Hey, man, that's cool that you got out. It was nice today. I'm hoping tomorrow is a good one, too ('sposed to be!). Quote
jaystraw Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 yeah, I feel like I'm saying "It was just nice to be nominated.", but it really was just nice to be in the boat agaian listening to the Red Sox in the sun on the water, hoping for something to bite. Quote

Nice! I beat the mad rush of boaters this morning and bent a rod with a few nice smallies today. Rage Tail Rooster and swim jig/Baby Craw did the damage. Quote
nhbassin Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Nice smallies Shane. I went out for a little bit today at a pond in Concord and got 1 largemouth on a power worm. Thats my first fish of the year that wasn't from the power plant. The season has begun! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 10, 2011 Super User Posted April 10, 2011 Nice, nhbassin! Congrats. Where'd you go? Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Got out yesterday with my wife and my son and got skunked at Nutts pond in Manchester. Ohh well hopefully things will pick up. Quote
NHfroggin Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hey guys nice to see some of you getting out on the water already..Those are some nice fish Shane! I haven't been able to get out yet, but the boat should be ready soon. -matt- Quote
nhbassin Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks, I went from shore at Beaver Meadow Pond in Concord. Its behind the golf course. Quote
nhbassin Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Me and clr9933 went out on the Merrimack today a little before 6 am and caught some nice smallies on everything from soft plastic flukes, to Zara spooks, to rage tail roosters. Here were two of the better ones. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 12, 2011 Super User Posted April 12, 2011 Nice ones, man! It can be ridiculously fun up there when they are active, and there are some pigs ,too! Glad you guys got on a few. Quote
Nick Roemer Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Got out over the weekend. Hit a few local Hudson spots. Nothing was hitting. Trying a lot of soft plastics mostly. Some spinner baits - tried a range of colors. Hoping things start picking up here in the next week or so. Either way hope everyone's winter season was good - "unfortunately I'm the warm weather fisherman". Tight Lines and lets see some monsters this yr! Quote
jaystraw Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 fmoore and I got out on the Ct. River out of Hinsdale yesterday from 2pm to 8pm. It was a beautiful day, and the water temp was in the mid 50's for most of the river. Higher in some spots! We had a blast. Started real slow, but we caught about 10 overal. I saw "we", but it was mostly fmoore putting a hurting on them. He caught a huge smallie right off, and then it was all LMB after that. I think everything both of us caught was on a bitsy flip in green pumpkin or black/blue. Here's a pic of fmoore with the big smallie: Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 12, 2011 Super User Posted April 12, 2011 Sweet! I can't believe the water is that warm in there already. That's a good day, though for sure. Quote
fmoore Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 The water's really stained and the stuff we were fishing was pretty much in 5 feet or less. The main river is significantly colder. I had a great time Jay. And we'll have to do some smallie hunting prespawn so we can get on some real giants! This explains why there were so many trees in the water Quote
jaystraw Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 yeah, I really should have said the water temp was that high where we were fishing in the shallow areas. That sounds like a plan to me fmoore. LOL at that graph..no wonder!!!! Quote
jaystraw Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 got out on great Pond today in some BRUTAL wind and very cold temps. No fish at all for me or my buddy. Got to see nhfroggin, and I think we found a really promising pond overall. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Any tips for fishing now? I am seeing 51 degree water temps and have not been able to buy a bite. I'm thinking they will be shallow as the water would be warmer, but no luck. Been throwing a jig/with a craw trailer or senkos. Any help would be apprecitated. Thanks Derek Quote
NHfroggin Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Hey it was nice seeing you jaystraw. It was windy and very cold on the lake today. I headed out mostly to test the boat out but fished for an hour or so only got one about a lb, on a senko. I posted some pics and videos in the bass boat forum of my boat i finished. -matt- Quote
jaystraw Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 It was nice seeing you as well nhfroggin. BTW, your lady must LOVE you to put up with that weather! I could NEVER have gotten my wife in the boat yesterday. Water temp was about 50-53 for most of the lake unh. I'm not sure why, but I've hard a real hard time this spring. The best day I had so far was with fmoore on the river, and even then it was VERY slow until we found a shallow warm area where the water temp was closer to 60. I think this slow spring is making them sluggish. We need to get these water temps closer to 55-60 degrees Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 16, 2011 Super User Posted April 16, 2011 Two words, Derek. Drop Shot. Money when it's tough like now. Find warmer water, and you might get 'em on a swim jig, spinnerbait, or jig, but if not, stick to the small, slow stuff. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Thanks Jay and Shane. I'll give it a shot. Quote
NH Fisher Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Made it out yesterday morning. started out just cold then turned windy. First time out in my jon boat. I made it to the far end of the lake when the wind picked up and found out my trolling motor battery needs to be replaced. Between and very slow running trolling motor and one paddle with the wind in my face. I made it about 200 yards in about an hour. First time out in this boat at least i didn't sink. Did not even get a bite. Quote
fmoore Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Spent 2 hours on Spofford Friday night and got 2 bass and 2 picks on the hard jerkbait. It just iced out Wednesday so I was happy with that. Got wrecked yesterday on the river. 8-4 tournament. I had 2 for around 4 pounds. Winning bag was somewhere around 13 I think. Only 3 boats had a limit and the next highest weight was around 8.75. Most of the setbacks are down in the mid/high 40s now and the falling water did not help any. Only 3 boats out of 13 had a limit I think. We need a solid week of stable warm weather for this spring to really get going. Heading out to Spofford here in a few. Quote
