You should have had it weighted with a certified scale you may of had a new state record. Current record for a black crappie is 17.25 inches 2 lbs. 12.8 oz.

I hit Rollins pond in Gilmanton last week and had a great 2 hours. 19 bass between 14 and 19 inches all on top water black poppr and white jitterbug.

also boated this 18+ inch black crappie a little over 2 3/4 lbs on the white broken tail jitterbug

she was a fat one

How is the water level on Rollins pond? Is it still real shallow all around the boat ramp? I haven't been there this year yet but got some nice bass last year.

I now know that it was a possible record. Would have been pretty cool to have that, but at the same time i would have had to keep it and not release her back into the water. I believe in catch and release. Maybe the next person wont, or maybe i will catch her again and change my view as there are a lot of black crappie to be caught. And it would definitely taste good on the grill.

Water level was low when i caught her. Should be good now with all the wet weather we have had since then.

There are 2 good sized holes in the ramp , 1 in the water and one closer to the road.

I got laid off from my job yesterday. The good news is that this gives me more time to fish. Looking for people to fish with during the week. I have a boat. Usually take it to Kingston Lake or Big Island Pond. PM me if any of you have free time and are looking for someone 2 fish with during the week.

Was planning on sleeping in now that I can but I'm sure we can work something out.

Went out yesterday with clr9933 and we had an incredible afternoon of fishing. We tried jigs, senkos, rage roosters and spinnerbaits near the shore line with no luck. After about an hour we tried deep cranking in 12-18 feet of water using "sexy shad" pattern crankbaits and we killed them! Ended up with about 20 bass in total. I landed a 3 pound 4 ounce and clr9933 set his new personal best twice within 20 minutes! He caught a 6 pound 10 ounce then a 5 pound 14 ounce which are both shown bellow.

NH Bassin:

Great job getting those big fish cranking in deeper water! Nice fish!! Congrats.

I have been struggling with the shallow water bite the last few weeks. Senkos, Rage Roosters, shaky head and spinnerbaits have resulted in three total fish the last three outing.

I have definitely tried some deep cranking, but haven't had luck with that either. And I've been using the Strike King sexy shad pattern. Any particular approach you used to locate fish? There's an awful lot of 12 to 18 foot water in a lake. Do you target the deeper areas immediately out from areas that you know are good shoreline areas? Ledges and drop offs? Any other ideas? I'm beginning to feel like I am wearing fish repellant.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks Beverly Bassman. The fish we caught in the 12-18 foot deep range were on a somewhat steep drop off that ends up in about 25 feet of water and has scattered rocks all along it. Since our crankbaits wouldn't hit bottom in 18 feet of water even on long casts, we stuck our rod tips down a few feet into the water while reeling in so that our crankbaits would bump off rocks and cause some reaction strikes. We saw Paul Elias doing that on Falcon lake when he broke the record for heaviest weight in a tournament.

That link shows the documentary about his record on youtube.

I would think you should start having more luck in the shallow water starting VERY soon now that it is cooling down. For now with the crankbaits, try looking for water that has close access to deeper water that has good structure on it and maybe you will have better luck. Wish I could give you some better advice, but thats all Ive got for now. Good luck!

Hooked then lost a huge one tonight on Tinker road just before the bridge that goes over the highway.

Got it within 6 inchs of my reach when the line broke as i was reaching to grab her lip.

2 casts later i caught this lady. Not as big as the one i missed but still a new personal best

I have been lucky in this spot at night most of the season.

Its where they did a lot of digging up and Lot of construction work. This one was on the main part of the water, but i have pulled a bunch of smaller ones out on the other side of the little pond

Nice bass Neverett! That thing looks really thick. Congratulations on the new personal best.

Here's a 7 and change from yesterday. It was kinda funny, because I was teaching my buddy how to work a bait, and this happened...

It won't help. In my experience, if you can get her close enough to net, you should be able to lip her. The easy way out, is to go for a net, but when you think about it, you have to control the fish the same. I don't even have one in my boat anymore. If I was fishing for money, that might change, though.

Thats a HAWG Shane! There have been a few posts of 6+ in the past couple months, but that is the first 7 in a while.

WOW she's a big one that's for sure. Rage tail ? I am still working on trying to get comfortable with fishing real slow rubber stuff. I get bored with them and go back to my comfort zone of the topwater popr and jitterbug. But i am working on it. I keep missing more than i am hooking with the rubber stuff and loosing tails on lizards. Keep throwing us those hints Shane. I know your helping me.

also i have been reading and watching some video

i have read and i believe Shane has told us something similar. Targeting the larger fish.

"that a fish wont go after a meal if the energy it uses is more than the energy itll get from the meal"

or in simple terms i take it as throwing something a little bigger so that big lady wants it more.

I have been throwing 4 inch saltwater black popr and a 4 inch jitterbugs and having decent luck with fish a little larger than i had normally been catching... but also less fish total as smaller ones have not been hitting.

another aspect of trying to target larger fish? Shane i am listening.

I want that 6 lber. of course once i get her i will want the 6.5 and so on
