MARsSPEED Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 The wife let me out during the worst time of day yesterday, 11am to 2:30pm. Yikes! Still managed 3 fish on Lake Linganore including this guy just under 18". Fished a double sided jig most of the time. Saw multiple 20" fish but I could not get them to bite. One of these days... Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 5, 2013 Super User Posted July 5, 2013 Didn't know the boats had to be registered. He didnt seem to think it was a big deal though.   I launch the boat, he gets in my car and drives it and the trailer to his house. I motor around to where he lives and pick him up. From what he told me, you only get hassled if you let the vehicle/trailer at the launch. They check the vehicles for the permit.  I personally wouldnt fish it without a resident on my boat. Quote
MARsSPEED Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Lake Linganore. Best 3 hrs of fishing since fishing Larriland 20 years ago today, however its been about 20 years since I had a full season of Bass fishing. I am really getting hooked on fishing again! Anyways, caught +/- 20 Biggs today and at least 10 of them were 16"-18". Time was between 3pm-6pm all in cover within 10yds of shore. The ONLY weapon I used was a dark blue twin tail grub. Still waiting to land a 5+ lb bass. Here are some pics. My tackle box is 18" accros and 12" wide for reference. 1 Quote

Fishin Hard Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Went to the potomac river today in Hancock and waded for about 1 mile. Fished today, caught a lot of smaller ones but did catch a half dozen 1-2 lb ones. 1 Quote

evanmeister Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Any non-boaters in the Columbia, Howard county area interested in meeting up to fish at Wilde Lake or Centennial Lake in the next few days? Quote
KenLattimore Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Got out yesterday evening to Black Hills from 6-8pm. Caught four with the largest going around 3.5lbs. Each fish caught got progressively bigger starting with a 13-14" fish to the last one at 3.5 lbs. There was another fisherman on the bank with me who snapped a pic for me. I'll post a pic when I get to a laptop. Quote
MARsSPEED Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Lake Linganore. One week later than the best Bass fishing day of my life....today I smashed my PB!!! But I will start with this and apologize for so many pics. Only caught three fish in two hours but all three were quality. Fish #1 was just under 20" beating last weeks PB. Fish #2 was 19" but may have been heavier than fish #1. And lastly my new PB. I don't know the exact size because it was much larger than my tackle box. It was almost the same length as both my shoes end to end, maybe a half inch shorter. I measured my shoe when I got home and it was 11 3/4". That makes this fish anywhere from over 22" and under 24". My entire fist fit in his mouth! Truly awesome!!! 2 Quote
MARsSPEED Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Can't get over the fact my looks small in the pic. It doesn't do the fish justice so I took these today to get a better idea. Quote
MARsSPEED Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Guess the bite is slow for everyone this week? I finally got out on Linganore again today for about 3 hours. Caught only 3 fish ranging from about pound to three pounds. Water is very clear and the bite is hard to find. The catches were completely random. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 Kinda slow over here too. I've caught a couple on senkos and topwaters but nothing real big. A guy I work with told me about a new spot. Really secluded and kind of hike to get to. There's a whole bunch of ponds scattered out in the woods. They're all within walking distance of each other and they all have great cover. I didn't catch anything but the guy who told me about says he's caught some nice one's out of them. I'm anxious to go back maybe in the fall. Hopefully the fish will be a little more active when it's not 100 degrees out. I think that's what's been killing the bite. Quote
Bill Poch Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Slow for me this past week. I went to Black Hills Tuesday night from about 6:00 - 8:30. Only managed 1 in the 2lb range.  I took the Kayak out on the Potomac Sat. Put in at the Mouth of Monocacy and paddled up to the first island. Caught 3 smallies, the biggest only going 12". I missed a few too. I'm hitting my secret creek tomorrow night with my brother for some redemption, it's usually a pretty hot spot. Thurs I'm going to wade around Harpers Ferry and Sat. taking the Jon boat out on the potomac with my brother.  I'm hoping for a better fishing week. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 After seeing the pics of the fish from Lake Linganore I had to look it up. Now I found a $600k house that I want to buy that has its own boat ramp. Â Allen 1 Quote

Allen LOL! The lake would be happy to have you. I am not going to lie I am a little jelly of the fisherman using the smaller pontoon that have the adjustable overhead awning. However, if I had one I would likely drink too much while out fishing and tie up on somebody else's dock when said and done.Question... would you consider 10-15 boats fishing a 300 acre lake on a Saturday heavily fished or not? I don't see many shore fisherman. Maybe another 10-15 shore men on a Saturday. How does this compare to say, Black hills? Quote

The club I fish had a tournament there the same day as FOBA and it looks like the D-Day invasion with all those boats at the ramp. Â Allen Quote
KenLattimore Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Managed to get out to Black Hills on Saturday and yesterday (Wednesday). Saturday was tough with me fishing from 6am-noon and having one fish to show for my efforts and that was caught about an hour after I arrived. Wednesday however was a different story as I caught five fish from 7-9pm. There was a lot of activity with fish swirling and splashing all around. I think the rain storms and lower temps were definitely some contributing factors, but the few times I've managed to get out in the evening have been my most productive by far. Of the five I caught yesterday, 3 were about two pounds with the other two pretty small maybe around 12".  My favorite lure this season has easily been the Fat Ika. I've used it almost exclusively. I really wanted to try my hand at jigs, but having a hard time switching. That being said my only fish on Sautrday and my last fish of the evening yesterday were both caught on a jig. 1 Quote
Bill Poch Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Waded the Potomac up by Harpers Ferry last night with my brother. Managed a few nice ones on a white super fluke.  This is about the average size I was catching     3 Quote
MARsSPEED Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Missed a gigantic LM today. I think it was larger than the one I caught two weeks ago. I didn't have a net and couldn't reach out enough to pull it out by hand. Tried to lift it out with just the rod and SNAP goes the line. Wish I wasn't such a donkey, guess I will be switching to braided. Any other advice is appreciated.I am going to lose sleep over this one... Quote
KenLattimore Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Went to Black Hills on Saturday morning and evening. Managed three and the morning and two that evening. Lost a fish that evening that I think may have been huge, after I set the hook I felt a lot of weight but she broke me off about 10-15 feet from shore. I saw a big swirl where she had me wrapped around a log and that was it. Haven't stopped thinking about since... Quote
sprirobass Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Losing the big ones will keep you coming back for more. 1 Quote

As spriros said, its what keeps us coming back for more! I do use braid for a couple techniques but not all. Froggin and flippin and pitchin in heavy cover are the 2 I use more often. The other that comes to mind is throwin jerkbaits for smallies in areas I know to hold walleye as well. I do compensate for the braid by using a softer rod so I don't pull the hooks out. What techniques are you considering switching over to braid? Quote
