I went out too. Got to the lake around 5:15 am.  Expected the sun to rise at 6 and warm things up a bit so I just wore shorts, a t-shirt and a light hoodie.  Big mistake.  It stayed cloudy and like you said the wind was terrible.  The bite was slow and the wind was relentless so after about an hour and a half I decided to call it a day.

Has anyone been to black hills lately? I'm thinking about going down there after work today. I'm guessing they have to be close to sitting on their beds. I've never had much luck when they are just protecting the nest.

Got out to big pool Sunday. Hit one on a jig and a few more on the spinner. Wind was miserable I think at one point there was one foot of chop with wight caps. Lol.

HI guys! New to here! Moved to Frederick not long ago, thinking about wet some lines in next coupe of days. Prefer fresh water Pike, Perch, Walleye fishing for shiners...  Bass is great too!!! Also love ice fishing but that is a different topic:)

Any advice where I can head on?

I heard Greenbier, Hunting Creek Lake and Little Seneca are the closest.

I am new here as well. 1st post actually. I just moved into New Market and am a member of Lake Linganore. Here are some pics from my first time fishing at Lake Linganore for about 2 hours. Caught about 8 fish ranging from just under a pound to a little over 3 lbs. My godson also caught a decent fish.

The Potomac will be your best bet for Pike. You may also enjoy catching Snakehead. They make for an excellent dinner...the best fishing for the species you like would be Liberty Reservoir but that will be about an hour drive for you.

tserberis and MARsSPEED, Welcome to THE boards!

There are a lot of anglers that post on here in the Frederick, Washington and Montgomery county area. Scroll back through the pages and I'm sure you'll see plenty on local waters mentiones.

I myself moved back to Frederick last fall so I'm hitting some of my old spots I've posted on but I'm looking for new waters too. If you have any questoons, post them or PM me. If you post, you'll get multiple replies (which is part of the reason this thread has been so successful)!

Welcome, I live in Frederick myself.  I don't know anything about fishing for Walleye, but I think they can be had on the Potomac up around d**n 5, I'm sure somebody here can correct me if I'm wrong.  As for Smallmouth on the Potomac, Lander, Brunswick, White's Ferry, and Point of Rocks are some good spots.  If you are a wader Point of Rocks is excellent.  When the river level is down below 1.7 ( I prefer 1.5 myself) at Point of Rocks, you can park on the VA side at the boat launch and wade over to the MD side.  It's nice a shallow access on the VA side as to where on the MD side it's a lot more rocky with bigger holes to fall into.  The river won't be low enough to wade at Point of Rocks until Mid summer.

My brothers and I just went out on the Potomac from the Mouth of the Monocacy and thats about 15 - 20 mins from Frederick down 85.  We just got our outboard working on the Jon boat so I hope to explore more of the Potomac this year.  We got the boat last year from a friend and were stuck with a not working motor.

For the rest of you, my brother and I did make a trip to Black Hills yesterday evening.  We threw everything we had at the stick ups and came away with not even a hit and left some more spinners back there. I swear I'm going to take the yak out there without my fishing rods and just go collect every lure I see hanging in a tree. The water level seems down though, about a foot more shore line is exposed.  We then ran over to the backwash. It's still stained like crazy though.  My bro caught a little pounder on the backwash side and I had one on, but he jumped and got off. I was on the lake side.  Had a few take a run at a lipless crank but didn't hit it.  Both were caught slow rolling plastics.  Seemed to be holding about 2 - 3 feet out from the rocks.

Basser89 - a friend of mine saw a little girl pull a 4 pounder out of Baker Park over the weekend. Unfortunately, he said she kept it.  He said she was opposite side of the little shack.

Have any of you fished Linganore much? I have only gotten out once since buying a house in the LLA, but I had a great time in the short time I was out. My accuracy of casting is horrible! I am really just getting started/back into fishing. I grew up fishing on Linganore, Black Hills, and the Potomac from ages 7 to 15 and now almost 20 years later, I am back. Also fished a lot at a farm called Larryland when it was public. That place was a gem...

As I get out more and get to know some of you, I wouldn't mind taking someone along with me being that its private. Access has changed a lot over the past 20 years but I am determined to find new spots until I purchase a boat.

On another note, I have heard some incredible stories about the large pond/small lake on Poolesville Golf Course. Stories that legends are made of.

fishing private spots sounds like a good time, hopefully it wont be overfished .. seems like some places i go to have been getting fished more heavily

Good to see your getting out! Its been tough overall on the few occasions that I am able to get out! I've had to slow WAY down to get any action (working soft plastic stick baits).

Apparently, the little girl or her guardian doesn't understand what a closed season is. Heck, its been closed to 2 months now. Sad...

In the local waters of the Potomac, referring to the stretch from Williamsport to Dickerson, there are no pike or snakehead in the Potomac (someone please correct me if I am wrong). There are pure strain and tiger muskies.

Welcome tserberis and MARsSPEED!!!

MARsSpeed, does you name have anything to do with Summit Point Raceway?

I have heard a lot of good fish from Lake Linganore but I have never been able to fish it before.

The water is down at Black Hills because they pull water out once every spring and fall. I imagine the bite is slower due to weather and fish being locked on beds. That should change soon. Hoping to get out there saturday if I can find someone with an empty back seat.

Basser89 is correct, there are no pike in the Potomac. In the Washington Country stretch there is a good population of musky but not to many farther downriver. As for the snakehead, I have only heard one reported caught in the upper, around the Whites Ferry area.

I have been fishing the Potomac for 30 years and have never heard of any pike in there? There are natural and tiger muskee in the Upper Potomac but no pike. Deep Creek has pike, pickerral, walleye, etc... just about every species of freshwater fish found in the state.

Yep, thanks for correcting me. I apologize for the disinfo.

So I got out today in Cunningham Falls Park lake with my family:)

Got there around 12:30 As I was with my 2.5 year old so we stayed not far from the swimming beach.

I am originally from Europe so never before had to deal with Bass. So don't judge me to much by my lure choosing ans such:)

So I started by trees left side of the beach. First cast and boom! A tiny one:)

6E7AC56E-88EF-442D-9442-776BEE46366E-204

I used this:

EE52C1C7-6816-4284-992E-1F074E061821-204

Threw few more there and moved all the way through the whole beach to the right and by the kayak House got this on the same lure:

318B6300-8261-48F9-96FA-55D82E4E5F7F-204

Got to the little corner by the Kayak House and got this one:

D48ACB79-2164-49A5-8628-9AF9E5D5467C-204

used this:

3C3A2AD8-6059-4020-964C-108CD8AE6309-204

Changed it to little Green Senko Worn with long curly tale and got another tine one at the opening by the picnic tables:

D9637D85-6414-4985-97B3-AEDA73908735-204

Did a few more casts out there at the openings got a few more bites but nothing stayed on then I changed it to this:

8A4D2D26-B80C-48BC-AEEC-1D7D8A33FBB4-204

and got the biggest catch of the day:)

25249956-2731-4334-B4CB-3146E360BB3A-204

After that my fishing was over as my wife called for lunch, weather changed to rain and tired kid called it a day:) Next time I am going by myself... Maybe Friday if I can get away from the house.
