Dramer77 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 i need to find some good spots up near fred, ive never fished up around there Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 19, 2013 Super User Posted March 19, 2013 The place I am referring to is Chevy Chase Lake, Urbana Fish Management area. Not a huge place but looks pretty good. My daughter and I went there once and did okay. Need to go up myself and see what I can figure out when I am not entertaining a kid. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 19, 2013 Super User Posted March 19, 2013 Oh, forgot to mention take a look at the Frederick watershed area. A few ponds in it, some close to roads others a little hike thru the woods to get to. Quote
KenLattimore Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I've checked out the Urbana Fish Management Area (Chevy Chase Lake) once myself. I was with my two year old daughter so only got to look around a little before she got impatient. It's a little hard to find but I was told it holds some nice fish. If anyone wants to give it a shot one day let me know. I'd be willing to go on a little scouting mission. Quote
FisherHuntress Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I was actually planning on going out to Germantown tomorrow. There's a lake there that my friends used to fish at, and I was hoping to check it out. Thanks for the welcome and the tips guys! Quote

Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 24, 2013 Super User Posted March 24, 2013 Nice man! I'm planning on going out for an hour or 2 in the morning. Wouldn't mind hooking into a 4 pounder myself. Quote

Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 24, 2013 Super User Posted March 24, 2013 yea i thought i hooked a log at first...lol I lost a big one last time I went. I was fishing a crankbait along a weedline and something hit it. I set the hook and started reeling but it didn't seem like I was getting anywhere and it didn't really feel like whatever was on the other end was moving so I thought I was just caught in the weeds. But as soon as I let up a little on it, I felt whatever was on the other end start to shake and before I could put pressure back on, it was off. Whatever it was had some weight to it too. Hopefully tomorrow I can land it. Quote

Do you know the mill owner? As you can see in this pic there are No Tresspassing signs on like every other tree in that area. I mention this because the last time i tried to fish there I was told it was private property and that I needed the owners permission hence the signs. The area use to be open but soo many people trashed it they shut it down to the public. Allen Quote

Allen you can still fish right there where the parking lot is, you cant go down by the mill right under the falls... the sign you kinda see says something about no trespassing after dark... it says fishing there is a privilege etc and has rules for the area... i go there all the time with the wife and have never been told your not allowed to fish there anymore..past 2 years or so... the owner was in the hospital for a good while, he had triple bypass surgery.. theres an old guy that was watching his property that comes down there on a golf cart and talks to us every once in a while .... there were a few people there when i went yesterday... Quote
Bill Poch Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I made it out to Black Hills Sat for about 2 hours. Hit the stick ups and didn't get anything. I tried worm, jig, and jerk bait. I'm getting jealous of you guys posting pictures!! Quote

The guy on the golf cart that uses his cane for the gas petal is the one that said something to me. It is nice to know you can fish there but below that dam is where you really want to fish. Allen i know you can fish below it on down farther just past the mill.. he had told me that i could fish just below the dam while he was there once or twice, he said there was a hog largemouth there thats been hooked but never landed by him and another person... basser89 Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 Had to go to Germantown today so brought some gear along and hit Black Hills for a couple hours. Action was slow until the clouds luck Iightened up. Managed one that went 2-12 on a lipless crank. I had 2 others.come off during the fight. Later I the evening, traffic was horrible so I popped back over for another short outing. Managed a 3 pounder on another lipless crank. I did check the temps, it was 51 today. Anyone else been out lately? Quote
Bill Poch Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I haven't been out lately, but plan on sneaking over to Black Hills Sat afternoon. Basser, have you been fishing the stick ups? I was suppose to hit d**n 4 with my brothers Sat, but the wife is working and nobody to watch my kid. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted April 5, 2013 Super User Posted April 5, 2013 My wife a I fished Smithville Lake down here in Caroline County today. Caught a couple small to average size largemouth and we each caught a new personal best chain pickerel. 1 Quote
